When doing so, one experiences aging and death, and the previous end becomes invisible. Therefore, I should not now train in tastes that are discernible by the tongue as they were before. I should not have wrong faith or inverted perception, inverted mind, or inverted view regarding the tastes discernible by the tongue that have arisen in the past, future, and present. Like this: In order to abandon the knot of the collection of craving, the knot of the collection of malice, the knot of the collection of holding morality and asceticism as supreme, and the knot of clinging and holding as supreme, thinking "this is true," one should train, and in order to separately discern "may they be abandoned," one trains for that reason. Monks, however, here, for some, those tastes discernible by the tongue become pleasant, while for others, they become unpleasant. For them, sometimes they become like pleasant places, sometimes they become like unpleasant places, and sometimes they become like neutral places. Monks, in this way, sentient beings have long been obscured by the mind, deceived by the mind, and deluded by the mind, not seeing the faults and not thoroughly understanding liberation, and thus are allowed to be manipulated as the evil demon desires. Monks, some ascetics or Brahmins do not see these tastes discernible by the tongue as true and existing, and clinging to their own wrong beliefs, they cling and proclaim, "This alone is true, and the others are false." Those who are attached to and abide in the pleasant places of tastes discernible by the tongue, those ascetics and Brahmins who are completely afflicted by the knot of the collection of craving and possess the attachment of clinging, are also allowed to be manipulated as the evil demon desires. Monks, some ascetics or Brahmins

Those who do not see these tastes, which are to be distinguished by the tongue, as true and permanent, but cling firmly to their own wrong beliefs, and cling to them, saying, "This is true, and the other is false," they dwell in anger towards such unpleasant states of taste as are to be distinguished by the tongue. Monks and Brahmins, who are completely tormented by the knots of the assembly of harmful thoughts, and who are endowed with the pervasive application of anger, are also allowed to do as the evil demon desires. Monks, some monks or Brahmins do not see these tastes, which are to be distinguished by the tongue, as true and permanent, but cling firmly to their own wrong beliefs, and cling to them, saying, "This is true, and the other is meaningless," they do not separately examine such neutral states of taste as are to be distinguished by the tongue. They dwell in the neutrality of non-separate examination, and are completely tormented by the knots of the assembly of monks and Brahmins who cling to and hold supreme the thought, "This is true," and who are endowed with the pervasive application of pride, are also allowed to do as the evil demon desires. Monks, it is like this: for example, a student makes his teacher eat cow dung, saying, "I will give food to the teacher," and makes him drink urine, saying, "I will give drink," and he is very happy with this and does not see any fault in it. But when he examines it separately, he knows that "I made my teacher eat cow dung, saying, 'I will give food to the teacher,' and I made him drink urine, saying, 'I will give drink,'" then he will be tormented, ashamed, remorseful, and condemned. Monks, likewise, when a noble hearer who is endowed with learning obtains this noble, transcendent wisdom, he is tormented, ashamed, remorseful, and condemned by his former childish conduct, ignorant conduct, and immoral conduct of wisdom, and he thinks thus

And I thought: My realm, I used to think of impermanence alone as permanence, I used to think of suffering alone as happiness, I used to think of impurity alone as purity, and I used to think of selflessness alone as self. Thus, I used to perceive impermanence as permanence, suffering as happiness, impurity as purity, and selflessness as self. Monks, it is like this: for example, in the last month of summer, when the sun is at its zenith, cloudless and free from clouds, the heat causes mirages to move. Those beings who are childish in nature, ignorant in nature, and have corrupt wisdom think, 'This water that appears to be is truly existent and abiding.' Those beings who are not childish in nature, not ignorant in nature, and have wisdom think, 'This water that appears to be is not truly existent and abiding; it is merely a mirage, merely an illusion that deceives the eyes.' Monks, likewise, a noble disciple who has heard the teachings also knows that whatever tastes are discerned by my tongue, whether past, future, or present, there is nothing permanent, nothing stable, nothing lasting, nothing truly so, nothing unerringly so, nothing differently so, nothing truly correct, nothing truly real, nothing truly unique, nothing truly as it is, nothing unerring, nothing undeluded. They are all deceptive, hollow, meaningless, false, of a deceiving nature, are demons, are the tools of demons, are tastes, and are the forms of tastes. Therefore, one should not delight in them, one should not praise them, one should not be particularly attached to them, and one should not be particularly attached to them and abide in them. The Blessed One has said that the noble path that transcends the world is true.
