It is doing the work of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. It liberates from samsara. Here, when the Dharma speaker proclaims the Dharma, when does the listener listen to the Dharma? Initially, it enters from beginningless samsara. If one happens to hear the Dharma from somewhere, hearing Dharmas that have not been heard from that Dharma speaker, one will be amazed. Just as when the eye defects of someone who was born blind are completely cured by a great doctor, he sees this manifold and diverse earth and becomes supremely happy and joyful. He will clearly see forms of joy of various kinds that have never existed before and have never been heard before. Similarly, those who have been deeply immersed in this from beginningless time will also, through the meaning of holding the proclaimers of the sacred Dharma, see clearly the light when they speak of the various virtuous essences of the grounds of the limbs of enlightenment, and the meanings of the sutras that have never existed before, which have become clear. At that time, he will be extremely happy and joyful, and like a blind man seeing forms, he will clearly see and be very happy. This is the first merit. Having heard from those who proclaim the sacred Dharma, he will fully understand those Dharmas. Having heard those Dharmas by listening to the sacred Dharma, he will understand them with his mind. When he himself does not fully understand the meaning of what is said, he will ask others about it. In order to know what those words mean, he will hear it from them and others, and understand it with his mind. He will think, he will meditate, he will do it many times. He will combine the meanings of the former and latter with those words. He will pay attention, and after paying attention, he will also repeatedly look at the meanings. By looking at it, he will also gain joy. However he looks at it, he will be able to mentally distinguish those profound meanings. This is for the listeners to the Dharma speaker...

The second merit is to remember well the well-spoken (Dharma) that has not been heard. Furthermore, there is a third merit, which is to understand each of the Dharma preachers separately and to analyze them. "The meaning of this is this," "The meaning of this is this," is explained by these intentions. The general meaning of what they say should be these reasons, and due to the faculties of the beings to be tamed, this meaning is what the Bhagavan said. After hearing those meanings, analyze them. What are the ones that are contemplated together with these? To practice accordingly before and after is precious. It can also reach the ultimate of Nirvana. This is the third merit of listening to the preaching of the true Dharma. Furthermore, there is a fourth merit, which is that when the proclaimed true Dharma is analyzed, one can understand the previous and subsequent meanings of the spoken Dharma from the latter, and practice it. The meaning of "practice" is the meaning of the Dharma as it is spoken. How to diligently practice with the actions of body, speech, and mind? It is to practice the three kinds of good deeds. Meditate. Do it many times. Diligently practice the spoken Dharma. Because the wisdom is very clear, one can analyze from word to word, from part to part, and from connection to connection. In this way, the more one analyzes, the less the meaning will be reduced. Therefore, in order to obtain meanings that were not there before, one must strive to overcome afflictions. One must also strive for all combinations and conformities, and also conform to many merits, discipline, wisdom, and generosity. If, with the difference of thought, and with generosity, discipline, and wisdom, this is the fourth merit of attending, practicing, and repeatedly practicing the preaching of the true Dharma. Furthermore, there is a fifth merit, which is to listen well and enter well into the preaching of the true Dharma, and to make oneself very stable from the outside through the three kinds of actions.
