Also, when (a god) plays with other gods, those gods appear, and they are seen as if a lamp dies when the oil is exhausted. At that time, he will have such suffering: the wind of destined karma will surely destroy me. The suffering that arises from this separation (from the heavenly realm) cannot be endured even by the suffering of hell. Furthermore, the fourth suffering of the gods is that when he is close to death and rebirth, he will see as it is from which realm he will be reborn, and in which realm he will be born, namely the realms of hell, hungry ghosts, and animals. At that time, he will experience various fire-like sufferings due to regret. Furthermore, the gods have a fifth great suffering, namely that when those who have become virtuous friends preach the Dharma, they do not listen to it, nor do they practice the holy Dharma, but wander about carelessly, their minds completely stolen by external objects. When the time of death and rebirth comes, they will remember these things and feel unbearable suffering: What have I done! I have not listened to the Dharma, nor have I practiced discipline, so I have not cultivated wisdom. His mind will initially be burned by the fire of regret. He is involuntarily bound by the rope of his own karma and deceived by the enemy of carelessness. The gods have these five great sufferings. The gods do not understand these sufferings because they are mocked, deceived, and completely destroyed by the enemies of carelessness. Then, when he recognizes this, the king of swans makes a firm resolution and begins to think about various methods, thinking about what methods can make these (gods) better, and what methods I should use to preach the Dharma to these gods. After a long time, the king of swans realized that (he should) greatly benefit others.

Having entered, for the sake of benefiting those sentient beings, he spoke verses. How so? Always generous and possessing discipline, Loving all sentient beings, All aspirations are accomplished, Therefore, discipline is supreme. Possessing love and compassion, Sentient beings with extinguished desire, Possessing the ability to guide others, Their body's accomplishment remains forever. Content and cautious, Desiring to benefit all sentient beings, Liberated from desire and hatred, Their body's accomplishment remains forever. Separated from friends and enemies, With equanimity towards all sentient beings, Fearing to fall into the lower realms, Their body's accomplishment remains forever. Without deception and steadfast, Rejoicing in giving the Dharma, Liberated from miserliness and jealousy, Their body's accomplishment remains forever. Abiding in discipline and peaceful, Rejoicing in offering to the gurus, Skillfully knowing meaning and non-meaning, Their meaning's accomplishment remains forever. Without deceit, extremely wise, Always speaking pleasing words, Protecting the helpless, Their meaning's accomplishment remains forever. Knowing the time and place, Knowing what to do and not to do, Knowing the means of purifying sins, Their body's accomplishment remains forever. Thus, the lord of the geese, having known, How to make them practitioners of Dharma, And also make them teachers of Dharma, He also knows what is the means of guiding others, Therefore, he accomplishes all aspirations. Then, those gods, being heedless, wander without restraint, But what will cause them to be separated from heedlessness, How shall I teach them the Dharma? Then, with great wisdom and power, having observed well, remembering past lives, remembering that in the past I was a human, born in Jambudvipa (Indian subcontinent), having heard the Dharma in the presence of the Bhagavan Golden Light Buddha, although young at that time, this is indeed true. The Bhagavan knew that time, therefore he taught me the Dharma. Thus, the son of the merchant chief named Utpala-datta, this one has died, fighting.

The abode of the scattered gods will be reborn as a goose, reborn in another place. Therefore, I will declare these dharmas to those gods who wander about heedlessly because of their heedlessness, because the time to declare these dharmas is today. In any case, I should declare these dharmas. The ruler of the geese, having perceived this, became extremely devoted to benefiting others, filled with compassion, and with great love and compassion, he thought of the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. He approaches the place where those gods are playing with the sound of five musical instruments. Surrounded by a great flock of geese, he approached and saw: some of the gods were playing in the gaps of the forest, some in the lotus ponds, some in the houses of vines, some in the middle of the sky, dwelling well in small houses, and playing, some enjoying nectar together with their companions. Then, Time Good thought: Now is the time to declare the Dharma to these who wander heedlessly because of their heedlessness. In any case, with what kind of wonderful voice, with the voice of Dharma verses, shall I declare to them? I will subdue all the sweet songs of those gods and goddesses with my extremely sweet voice. Only by abiding in my voice will those gods, captivated by the sound, listen attentively. Otherwise, they will not listen, being heedless because of the enjoyment of desires. Then, having focused his mind on them, the king of geese remembered the voice of Brahma, and also remembered the qualities of the Buddha, and having generated great love and compassion, he dwelt manifestly on the summit of a mountain adorned with seven jewels, together with those geese, hundreds of thousands of kotis.
