One should not generate desire and attachment for the desire of the earth realm. One should not remember it and wish for it. One should not cling to its increase. Those ascetics or Brahmins who make themselves supremely happy will always be happy. Similarly, when the ear hears pleasant, lovely, and agreeable sounds, one should not engage in pervasive thought. One should not excessively desire with the mind. One should not generate desire and attachment for those past objects. One should not engage in pervasive thought. Because of being as it is in reality, one also discriminates sounds. These sounds are not permanent, not pleasant, and not possessed of self, but how can the child beings who are destroyed by mere pervasive thought completely transform into happiness? For those who thus completely examine and cling, sounds become the object of the ear, thereby completely disturbing the mind. Thereupon, by properly attending to it in various ways as it is, seeing it as it is, when one universally rejoices in this as it is, then those sounds themselves are also discriminated as they are in reality. For example, this sound is empty, discontinuous, and without essence. It is not that there is even a little essence in this, but it is the childish ordinary beings who are universally robbed by the discriminations in samsara. When they universally look at that sound itself, then, at that time, all the sounds that are sweet, desirable, lovely, and agreeable, and possessed of all distinctions, will not rob them either. The contented one will obtain the supreme bliss. Furthermore, ascetics or Brahmins and others of the same kind also do not smell odors with the nose, nor do they engage in pervasive thought. Nor do they think with a mind that does not properly attend. Those who smell these odors with the nose as they are in reality, see them as they are in reality, for example, these odors are not permanent or stable.

It is not a constant or unchanging dharma, and one becomes attached to any scent, and is thus deluded, and disturbs the mind stream with improper attention. Those who are attached to scent are impermanent, and these are without essence, and are accumulation and confusion. Thus, a contented renunciate or Brahmin, or others of that kind, are extremely contented. He is not robbed by the distractions of the nose. The more he observes accordingly, the more he becomes at ease. Therefore, one should rely on and cultivate contentment, which has become supremely pure, and become supremely happy because of repeated cultivation. Furthermore, that renunciate or Brahmin, or others of that kind, having tasted flavors with the tongue, will not become attached, nor will they discriminate. They will not recall the previous flavors that they have tasted in the past, nor will they contemplate with improper attention. They will no longer seek to repeatedly taste the same flavor. They will be happy merely because of contentment, and will not be led by non-contentment. They will not be inwardly attached. They will also properly discriminate flavors with the mind, that is, these flavors are not essentially meaningful, stable, constant, or unchanging dharmas. These are merely sentient beings whose minds are robbed by universally discriminating desire, and they merely perceive flavors as beautiful. When one properly discriminates these flavors, one will not become attached to these flavors, will not become turbid, and will not experience flavors because of the mind's distraction of flavors. One will be joyful merely because of contentment, and will not be led by flavors. Furthermore, renunciates or Brahmins, etc., when they come into contact with the tangible, if they have joy, contentment, and mindfulness, then after coming into contact with the tangible, they will properly

If one continuously observes, how can these tactile sensations, by their very nature, be permanent, stable, solid, or completely unchanging things? These tactile sensations are false and without essence, for these tactile sensations arise and then disappear, arise and then recede. Therefore, he observes these tactile sensations as they truly are, without discriminating, without tracing back past tactile sensations with memory, without generating wrong views, and without clinging to these tactile sensations. He does not seek other tactile sensations again and again, and he is content with any tactile sensation. He is truly content with tactile sensations that are free from desire, craving, and separation. This is also called being content through tactile sensation. Furthermore, other ascetics or Brahmins, or others of their kind, also examine the desirable and undesirable dharmas with their minds, and then observe them as they truly are. These dharmas are not permanent, stable, solid, or completely unchanging things; they are empty, non-existent, and without essence. These dharmas are impermanent, painful, empty, and selfless; they arise after disappearing, and they recede after arising. They contemplate all these desirable and undesirable dharmas, which are of the nature of decay, and because they have attained the supreme joy, they are not corrupted by the undesirable, nor do they cling to the desirable. They do not recall the past, do not trace back the past, and do not taste the flavors of the past. Therefore, by properly attending to the dharmas in their minds, they do not cling, nor do they taste all the dharmas with their minds, nor are they robbed by wrong views. Thus, the ascetic or Brahmin who is completely liberated from the collection of six wrong views, or that
