Like a lotus of the mind, stainless dharmas arise in the mind. With a focused mind, one cultivates the path of virtue. Just as the rising sun dispels darkness, it destroys non-virtuous dharmas. Whose mind is focused, constantly peaceful and abiding in equipoise, like a Garuda to poison, that one is not afraid of faults. This wavering mind is like the force of a great wind. Like a tamer holding it, how between, it is tamed by stability. With wisdom, discipline, and samadhi, one completely cuts down the forest of faults. Like fire to a dry forest, aided by the wind. Therefore, one should always rely on knowledge, and completely abandon ignorance. Abandoning birth and death, one goes to the supreme state. Whatever mind becomes focused, one should strive diligently. That mind is controlled by taming, one should not think that it will generate faults. If the objects that are constantly wavering are firmly and completely gathered, then like holding poison in one's hand, attachment and other afflictions will not cause harm. Therefore, with the qualities of diligence and stability, quickly tame the mind. From the path that crosses three rivers, cross over without delay. Thus, the king of peacocks also teaches these dharmas for the benefit of those solitary, joyful gods and those non-contending gods in various ways. Those gods, too, because their minds have been very well tamed and their minds have been very well settled, completely abandon all those realms of bliss and only listen to those dharmas. Knowing the minds of those who are frightened by samsara, they themselves again teach those dharmas, just like desire, suffering, and delight, other dharmas that are like a hook for all the negligent ones should also be contemplated by those who are well established in the Mahayana. What are these? For example, mindfulness of death. Whoever has mindfulness of death in their mind, and constantly relies on, cultivates, and repeatedly practices it, then, how are these sufferings individually the same for all sentient beings?

For all beings who are inevitable, this will necessarily occur. All things that truly occur, all things that are harmonious and pleasing, will inevitably become different, they will separate, they will part, they will disperse. We, having died and transmigrated from this world, will be born elsewhere. If then we obtain happiness and suffering, those beings who ride upon karma, they will eat the food of their own karmic fruit on the path, they will be born in hells, pretas, and animals. When the time of birth and death comes, no one is anyone's friend. Therefore, virtuous and non-virtuous actions, for what reason is that time a friend? Because those who have done well are like mothers and fathers. Those who have done badly are like enemies, causing them to be born in hells, pretas, and animals. Therefore, always do good deeds, and those who have done badly should be abandoned. Thus, after explaining what is the remembrance of death, at that time, his mind will not be struck by sadness and will not be subjected to hail. Nor will he be robbed by desire, hatred, and ignorance. He will not do unwholesome deeds for the sake of children, wives, and his own people. All householders who are frightened by the fear of death, their minds will become very peaceful, let alone those who have renounced. Even those who have renounced, by remembering death, not even one in a hundred will break their vows. He will not be happy with worldly pleasures. He will not wander in various places. Because wandering in various places also makes the mind distracted, and the root of all these disturbances is also the conduct of women, and the source of all these, this monk will abandon. Thus, he contemplates death. Just like various places...
