Those monks and Brahmins who are diligent in destroying (afflictions), from things such as hearing, touch, taste, smell, and sight, through diligence, will surely transform their minds. Even if they arise from causes and conditions, they can examine and restrain the mind. The second friend, due to diligence, will surely turn the mind away from all realms. The power of the mind that arises and will arise extremely quickly, through virtuous diligence, can be abandoned one by one. It can be completely gathered and thoroughly prevented. It will surely be restrained. Therefore, diligence is the foremost of all dharmas. Any virtuous dharma that accompanies it will be very stable, will not decline, and will have fruit. The merit of the virtuous mind that is guided by diligence will ultimately reach perfect complete enlightenment. Therefore, after realizing the merits, and dwelling correctly in the Mahayana, those monks or Brahmins who wish to quickly attain the unsurpassed perfect complete enlightenment should also become accustomed to the corresponding diligence. For worldly and transworldly meanings, diligence itself will be even more excellent. When a person begins to engage in any worldly affairs, all these affairs should be accomplished through extremely firm diligence, so that they will not be without result. Even if all the great worldly fears that are long-lasting, not destroyed by others, and lead to death occur, people with diligence will not be discouraged. They will not waver, nor will they become ill. Even if great losses of oneself and others occur, they will not be discouraged, but will engage in the same thing again and again. They will become strong. Even enemies will be difficult to subdue. Some of the meanings of these things have been accomplished.

cannot be destroyed. Whatever actions are undertaken, those actions will flourish. Like this, even for worldly matters, those wise ones who understand this will praise it. What more needs to be said about those who prioritize correct knowledge for matters beyond the world, with diligence as their main focus? Therefore, for all things, in all circumstances and at all times, one should initiate diligence with knowledge as a guide, in a way that is appropriate to the place and time, and in accordance with reason. From that, ultimate happiness will arise. Conversely, unhappiness will arise, and it will turn into many meaningless things. Therefore, diligence that is guided by wrong knowledge should be understood as non-diligence. Then, at that time, the peacock's ruler spoke in verses that conformed to the Vedic meter: Just as, having knowledge of place and time, and being extremely diligent in action, diligence initiated with reason, its fruit will be accompanied by fruit. Reason separated from place and action, completely abandoning Dharma, the actions taken will decline. Because of completely abandoning diligence, initiating diligence with reason is the path for the wise to go to liberation. Like shooting an arrow into the sky, one also goes to the realm of the gods. Strength and masculinity possessing diligence, whatever needs are initiated, those will be perfectly accomplished, and will even become completely purified. Some things beyond the world, wanting to obtain from the realm of the gods, that will be perfectly accomplished through diligence. Without diligence, it can never be achieved. Smaller than the heart and lacking diligence, also completely abandoning Dharma, the glory of such a person will not increase, just the appearance of deliciously eating food. The Noble Eightfold Path, knowledge is perfectly cultivated, possessing diligence, with great joy, one will go to the best of beings. Through diligence, one can also attain enlightenment, through diligence, one can also reach the heavens, even Buddhahood depends on diligence, no being can compare to diligence. Therefore, recognizing that merit, guide the senses with diligence, with the wisdom of initiating diligence, diligence.

There is no wealth equal to it. Thus, the peacock king named "Extremely Radiant," remembering other lives to the gods of Tushita and the gods free from strife, teaches the Dharma of the scriptures. When all those gods themselves heard those Dharma of the scriptures, being free from negligence, with ears fully attentive and minds one-pointed, having understood the minds of those gods who had attained peace, the lord of peacocks, with a mind that was exceedingly well-composed, became exceedingly delighted and taught other Dharma, which are the means, goodness, auspiciousness, and going beyond sorrow, for the benefit and happiness of those gods. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva who is greatly engaged in benefiting others, the fifth great Dharma, is for the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans. What is this? It is like teaching the Dharma. Why is teaching the Dharma the most supreme of all giving? Because it destroys all arrogance, it is like teaching the Dharma. Teaching and listening to the Dharma, respecting the teacher of the Dharma, rejoicing in the teacher of the Dharma, cherishing the teacher of the Dharma, practicing the Dharma, and not interrupting the teaching of the Dharma. If even the Thus-Gone One makes the Dharma supreme, what need is there to mention the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas? Because the teacher of the Dharma who is endowed with eleven qualities is to be cherished. What are the eleven qualities? They are: teaching the Dharma in a way that is reasonable and understandable in the right place and time; being without contradiction and clear; being attainable and not based on respect; teaching the Dharma in accordance with the minds of those to be tamed; truthfully showing the results of giving; being truly endowed with the Great Vehicle; teaching the Dharma of the faults of samsara; teaching the Dharma that causes one to descend into higher realms; and teaching by fully explaining karma and its results. Thus, teaching the Dharma in eleven ways is beneficial to both the listeners and those who speak well.
