Laziness should be abandoned. Because as it is said, just one laziness is only those limbs. Whether it be gods or humans who are without laziness and have initiated diligence, all things will not be in vain. In all times and places, they will not completely decline. Beings who are without laziness, that alone is the end of going to Nirvana. Therefore, four precious dharmas have been taught. What other dharmas are precious to people? For example, mindfulness. Similarly, just as laziness is the obstacle to all dharmas, so too are all dharmas, that is, those with the fruition of Nirvana, to be cultivated from the root of single-minded mindfulness and skillful mindfulness, in order to obtain the meaning of what is to be cultivated. Whether householders or renunciates, those who have mindfulness will not be heedless. Those who have caution will not waste the things they have undertaken. And again and again, they will also undertake other things. Through reason, great diligence, and manifest desire, they are always endowed with mindfulness and awareness, and therefore they will abide with awareness. The five senses also do not guard against the five objects, nor do they transfer or abandon them. Always from various conditions, when the eye sees forms, at that time one does not rejoice with desire for longing. One will see the nature of things. One will see that they have their root in conditions. When one sees all things arising from causes, one does not become confused. One will not be led by the attention that arises from that. If one is bound by the joy of desire and the loss of mindfulness, then whether it be a person, a renunciate, a god, or any other god, one will not rejoice in the realm of the afflictive demon. One will also fully know the fears that arise from that. One will also know the things that arise from faults. One will also fully know cessation through mindfulness, and having well recollected, just as in a certain place, through these objects, through this cause, through this condition, and the form of the eye that arises from such a realm.

Accompanied by knowing, at the time when it is completely generated by the moisture of the object, the afflictions of attention at that time, the one who definitely destroys them, being endowed with the power of his own nature, therefore, by definitely destroying the afflictions, he becomes extremely destroyed. Arising from all causes and conditions, that object greatly generates attachment, therefore, when attachment is remembered by it, because of the close abiding of mindfulness, it is again extremely destroyed. If it is subdued by focusing on that form, then with mindfulness, it is accompanied by fear, therefore, it is extremely abandoned in many ways. Just as a clever blacksmith working slowly, putting iron into the fire and hammering the heated iron tool, so too, those who delight in being secluded in the body slowly purify all defilements. They work carefully and make it free from defilements. Likewise, here, by the mindfulness of those who have become beautiful, the mind stream slowly eliminates all defilements. Just as a wonderful potter, having initiated diligence, transforms a lump of clay into a pot by means of causes, conditions, and habits, because it is initiated by the mindfulness of creating a beautiful form. Likewise, a person endowed with mindfulness, here also, the object that has become like a lump of clay, and the two causes and conditions, and the mindfulness of the mind that relies on beauty, from the definite completion, if anything is completed, then the attention that arises in accordance with reality, initiated by mindfulness, arises like a pot. Gods, just as our clothes, from the time we wear new clothes, they gradually wear out. And when it becomes known, from that time onwards, the moments become known. Likewise, from the time when beautiful mindfulness is established, from that time onwards, all faults are exhausted. That too is directly realized, and when the exhaustion of faults appears on the mind stream sealed by the noble ones, then it is completely known. Therefore, virtuous people who desire goodness, when the form touched by the eye constantly becomes the object, also completely bind it with the rope of mindfulness as it is.
