Benefit and happiness are like this: those individuals who are perfectly endowed with the seven qualities will be reborn as gods. What are the seven? Here, sons of good families become endowed with hearing, endowed with the meaning of hearing, practice the teachings they have heard, have their minds well-trained by hearing, take refuge in hearing, regard hearing as the essence, hold firmly to the hearing that has become the essence with a mind focused on the essence, and those individuals who delight in virtuous friends because of these qualities will possess seven virtues. It is like this: they act as they speak, hold firmly to what they have spoken, regard that firm holding as the essence, possess discriminating wisdom, truly engage with that very reality, their stable wisdom does not allow many things to become confused, and if others share the same nature, they follow them, not being robbed by the teachings of others, and similarly rely on friends who possess the seven virtues. How does one act as they speak? Here, virtuous friends, those with a virtuous nature, whatever they have come to know, they declare here, and they speak of benefit, timeliness, place, and reason, neither too quickly nor too slowly, expressing many meanings with few words, possessing pleasantness and understanding, and the giving of Dharma, abiding closely for the benefit of themselves and others, speaking well of what is good, speaking words of benefit to those who abide in both. It is like this: they accomplish exactly as they speak. They also lead others who practice together with them into discipline. They always and continuously practice well with body, speech, and mind. Like gold that is completely pure inside and out, thus one acts as they speak. How does one hold firmly to what they have spoken? This is when whatever is done is utterly pure in every way.

Yes. Those three dharmas are supremely pure, manifestly visible, and the source of birth for gods and humans, ultimately reaching the ultimate of nirvana, which I myself have realized. Having heard it from others, it also manifests through the stability of ripened bliss. One should firmly hold onto it. One should thus firmly hold onto it. That also means closely relying on a virtuous friend. If those who hold firmly manifest the essence, then the manifestation is also because the pure hold is firm for the sake of virtuous results. For the sake of benefiting both worlds, one should also manifestly see and, unlike speculation, discern with wisdom. Therefore, that is the wisdom that thoroughly discerns the essence. The essence of the fruits of virtuous actions, either heard from others, or if known, one should also thoroughly discern oneself and thus manifest in suchness. Such is the practice of manifesting in suchness. Those of steadfast wisdom, having become learned here, are not led astray by the meaningless. Therefore, they are steadfast in wisdom. Here, one should also rely on others who possess qualities similar to these, and one will not be led astray by things that have become the dharma of others, disguised as dharma. Therefore, practitioners who rely on friends endowed with seven qualities will, after passing away from our world, be reborn in the realms of the gods. These dharmas are the first to be relied upon. Furthermore, O gods, what other seven dharmas cause the realms of the gods to increase? For example: relying on a virtuous friend, being endowed with learning, being endowed with practice, being without laziness, being endowed with mindfulness, not harming others, and being without hypocrisy. These seven dharmas, as taught, enable a person, upon the destruction of the body, to be reborn among the gods from the world of happy migrations and higher realms. For example, possessing seven great chariots, whether a king or a minister of a king, can live in happiness.

In the amusement of the garden, it proceeds as it should with songs, drum sounds, and garlands. Similarly, those individuals who are perfectly endowed with these seven dharmas will go to the realm of the gods. What, then, is this kind of hearing? Here, a person endowed with hearing listens to what is essential. Having heard these, they will not become frivolous or unrestrained. The more one hears, the more one relies on the Dharma, becoming more cautious. Those with knowledge will not become complacent. They will ask others again and again. They themselves will also repeatedly speak in order to explain to others. Such individuals endowed with hearing, after the body is destroyed, will be reborn in the happy realm of the gods. The second is being endowed with practice of the Dharma. How does one become endowed with practice? Here, having heard the dharmas, one practices the Dharma and discipline accordingly. Even if one is endowed with hearing, but does not practice the Dharma and discipline, then these hearings are merely a burden. One does not rely on the result, nor does one accord with wisdom, virtue, discipline, and intelligence. At that time, it is meaningless, like a lamp in a painting without light. If one accords with wisdom and discipline, it is like a lamp illuminating. These hearings are meaningful; they are the essence of practicing the Dharma, speech is not the essence. The cessation of the actions of body and speech—those who are like that, after the body is destroyed, will be reborn in the happy realm of the gods. The third dharma is laziness. What is laziness like? Here, due to laziness, one does not practice. What is called practice is to do or ascertain the meanings as previously stated. They do not actively strive, nor do they feel joy, because of laziness, lack of diligence, and lack of effort. Such individuals become incapable even in the face of worldly affairs.
