When this becomes manifest, the other gods are able to recognize it. Some say that those gods, having enjoyed the fruits of their virtuous deeds, will only end up exhausting them. Others say that the virtuous deeds here have been completely exhausted, and that falling is something that will come in the future. Therefore, these are the second signs of decline for the gods of Paranirmitavasavartin. Furthermore, the signs of decline for those gods are like this: when those gods approach certain trees, when those gods are completely frolicking, and for those gods who are frolicking in forests near forests, those trees themselves will shower them with flowers. For those gods whose virtuous deeds have been exhausted, the trees will not fill them with showers of flowers in that way. When they are frolicking, for the god whose virtuous deeds have been exhausted, the trees will not fill him with flowers. When the other gods see those gods empty of showers of flowers in that way, they will say, 'Alas, the virtuous deeds of these gods have been exhausted as they should be, and falling is something that will come in the future.' Having heard these things, those gods will become very ashamed. These things seen and heard are the third sign of decline for the gods of Paranirmitavasavartin. These signs are not deceptive; the end of all perfection will be decline. Furthermore, what are the signs of decline for the gods of Paranirmitavasavartin themselves? It is like this: when they each approach the ground of jewels, they will see that the ground of those jewels' essence is without stain, and on the walls, like a mirror, the shadows of various images, and various garments and ornaments will appear. Just like the sun in the human world...

Just as a single wheel can be seen hundreds and thousands of times in the ocean, ponds, and lotus ponds, so too, the image of one of the gods can be seen very clearly in hundreds and thousands of those jewel-like lands. Among them, those gods whose virtuous deeds have been exhausted can only see one image on one jewel-like land, but not elsewhere. Those gods whose faith is very clear see such declines as they are, and know that the complete exhaustion of virtuous deeds will surely happen to these gods. The declines of these gods have come. Thus it is said. This is the fourth decline of the gods of Delight in Emanation. Then, at that time, the Blessed One spoke in verses, how: The world increases in perfection, but does not realize decline. Just as the day will eventually end, the end of perfection is decline. However much perfection there is, so too is the decline sinful. The deeds of desire are never satisfied, and are completely burned by dissatisfaction. Whoever constantly desires perfection, constantly desires happiness, is also destroyed by craving, and therefore happiness easily descends upon him. The god who falls into hell, unsatisfied by enjoying desires, is surrounded by fire, as the Thus-Gone One has said. Whoever completely falls into hell, likewise hundreds and thousands of times, know that he is skilled in vast sinful deeds. Thus, this is the fourth decline of the gods of Controlling Others' Emanations. Furthermore, the declines of the gods of Controlling Others' Emanations are also only four, how: When the virtuous deeds of the gods are exhausted, because they are accustomed to it, at the time of death and transference, garlands will abundantly cover them. For example, they will have various kinds of flower garlands, and the gods will be closely adorned with divine, unfading flowers. Those that are extremely fragrant are also difficult to compare.

Those made of flower garlands, illuminated very brightly by lights of various colors, by what excellence is it that even the center of the sun cannot match even one-sixteenth of its light? Those garlands are also filled with birds adorned with the seven precious jewels and bees that constantly make sounds. When the gods of Paranirmitavasavarti are in a time of decline, those supremely fragrant garlands of various flowers will be abandoned by those bees, and they will go to other places. They will also emit repulsive sounds. Those declines will be clearly seen by other gods whose minds are very clear, and they will discuss them, saying, 'The fall of the gods whose merit is exhausted has come here just like this.' This is the first decline of those who act carelessly in their carelessness. Having heard that the bees have completely abandoned them and gone elsewhere, those gods whose merit is exhausted will clearly recognize this individually. Having seen the pleasures of the incomparable realm, they will become filled with great suffering themselves, and those particularities that cause suffering will even resemble the fires of hell. This is the first place of decline for the gods of Paranirmitavasavarti. Furthermore, when the gods face death and rebirth, there will be two other imminent declines. For example, by the excellence of the gods formed by garlands of extremely soft and white shining light, the sun appears like a firefly. The bodies of those gods will produce a great illusion, and on the extremely bright mountain peaks and walls, they will be seen like mirrors. For example, at the time of death and rebirth, when the declines are near, the bodies, necklaces, and images of the gods will not be seen. Other gods who are very proficient in Dharma and have sharp wisdom will witness these.
