one can also realize. The great distinctions of the fruit, with the distinctions of wisdom, will especially realize nirvana. One can also be born in the pure abodes. By the distinction of dedication, one can also become a king, possessing a golden wheel, ruling the four continents, and being fully endowed with the fourteen precious things. By the distinction of dedication, one will be endowed with beautiful colors. By the distinction of dedication, one can exhaust all defilements, and also become a solitary buddha, and possess diligence, also by the distinction of the dedication of the mind. The Buddha Bhagavan, Arhat, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, unsurpassed, tamer of beings, charioteer, teacher of gods and humans, also by the distinction of that Dharma-giving, one will become the Buddha Bhagavan. Therefore, those gods do not possess these three kinds of giving. By doing so, humans are superior to the gods. The gods are the place of ripening. The place of karma is humans, because karma is vast, and the fruit is also vast, therefore it is gods and humans. By this difference of karma and fruit, the gods become small in front of humans. Furthermore, those who are born by the classification of karma, those who abandon giving and only practice morality, because they only possess one quality, the five objects of desire become very small. Therefore, by this indication of the cause of karma, one can become the best among humans, but not among the gods. Then, at that time, the Bhagavan Vipasyin spoke the verses, how: This giving born in the human realm, will go to the good realms. I think the gods are not happy, because they think this is the place of fruition. The place of karma is humans, the place of fruition is the gods. All fruits come from the path of karma, when the fruit is exhausted, there is no cause. Although the power of a moment is swift, one cannot reverse life. Karma will also be exhausted, therefore, guard your mind well. The power of the mind is...

All are equal. The living are to be abandoned. Therefore, for the sake of the living, the wise should not commit evil. The suffering of the future is not perceived by the multitude of beings. Here, those who indulge in worldly pleasures are all foolish like beasts. Generosity, discipline, and asceticism are treasures to be cherished in the heart. Whether gods or humans, they should strive for the supreme state of liberation. Birth, duration, and destruction are said to be inherent in all conditioned phenomena. All conditioned phenomena are not happiness; they are destined to perish. Decay, deterioration, separation, and such moments are all like that. The happiness of all the living is such, therefore, abandon it. Thus, all conditioned things are impermanent, suffering, empty, and without self. Beings are oppressed by various burdens of suffering, bound by the five bonds yet unwearied. Gods and humans alike have eyes closed by ignorance, with desire rooted in their hearts, bound by false attachments. In short, the mind that clings to ultimate meaning is that of all ignorant ordinary beings. Like birds bound by mutual craving, they wander in the cycle of existence. Even gods or humans should not entertain the thought of eternal happiness. This world is full of various forms and delusive thoughts, all changing impermanently. Whatever giving is endowed with twelve qualities is not directed towards the gods. Those who live solely on fruits, when the fruits are exhausted, rotten, or spoiled, will fall from the ranks of the gods. When their merit is exhausted, they will surely fall. What, then, are the gifts endowed with twelve qualities? They are: a land of abundance, a time of abundance, an abundance of qualities, an abundance of joy, giving generously to those who are delighted. A field of merit is complete, giving to those who come with hunger and thirst. Giving generously with faith and respect. Without afflictions, an abundance of qualities.

To give exceedingly to the Sangha, to give exceedingly with great proclamation, to give exceedingly with respect and to the non-human Sangha, to give exceedingly without jealousy, to give with undiminished respectful offerings, then to give with those twelve qualities, and if one's discipline is perfect, one will be born as a god. When those merits of the gods are exhausted, they will certainly fall. Therefore, the gods should not dwell in carelessness. Also, in the future, having completely separated from the twelve defilements, if one gives alms, then one will be worthy of greatness, and will even surpass the wheel-turning king, the gods, or other deities. The twelve defilements are as follows: those who belong to the same group, those who belong to the Sangha, those who have the same precepts, those who have wisdom, and those who have perfect qualities, giving alms equally to them, these are unpleasant alms, and the fruits of those will become small. Giving out of desire, whether it is to a woman or a man who is desired, giving to them. Those are the defilements. Giving to the renunciates or Brahmins who are honored by the king, and to the many almsgivers, or thinking, "He will completely protect me from these sufferings," and not meditating in the mind, and giving because of the reasons for those needs, that almsgiving becomes defiled. One should give alms in the opposite way. There are also other defiled alms. What are those? Like giving with ignorance, and with deceit and so on. There are also other defiled alms. The one who makes offerings is also called the offerer, who does not cultivate discipline, wisdom, and extremely peaceful meditation, but only makes other offerings, he makes all offerings here because of other causes, and he is also separated from thought. At that time, these are also defiled. There are also other defiled alms, like giving in order to show off. Then, these are also defiled. There are also other defiled alms.
