Everything arises from the discipline of monasticism. That is to say, a mind that has become coarse and distracted, and objects that have become delightful, are robbed away, so they will not be heard by the mind. Nor will they be diligently practiced. Faith in discipline will not arise. It is the same with the maturation of actions and their fruits. Because of a mind that has become wild with regard to objects, it will destroy those disciplines, and will not practice the Dharma. That which declines from virtue will surely fall. In such a state, one will not be born in the heavens. Nor is it worldly or otherworldly. Therefore, this third dharma, the lack of discipline, will become an obstacle. So, what are the fourth dharmas of the gods that will become obstacles for gods and humans? It is laziness. Those who are exceedingly delighted in laziness, likewise, for people, all and every worldly dharma will not arise. Being delighted in laziness will be completely separated from seven dharmas. What are the seven? Just as one is always arrogant, because of laziness one does not exert effort. Because one does not possess power, one completely declines. From always being arrogant, one will also completely decline. One will completely decline from enjoyments. One will completely decline from knowing objects. From all worldly things, one will decline. Relying on holy people and associating with worldly talk will also completely decline. That which completely declines from all worldly affairs will become completely foolish. Many remaining things will be wasted. Therefore, it will obstruct all worldly affairs of people. How does laziness obstruct the otherworldly dharmas of people? Here, because of laziness, those who have become lazy, because they fear the affairs of worldly households, they go forth. As if, after I have gone forth, I should enjoy very many dwellings and the implements of the causes of illness. I do not need to work at night, nor during the day, so I go forth with deceit and cunning. That going forth is considered sacred, and then one prays.

They do not cultivate, they do not work, they are not of the nature of diligent meditation. Ultimately, they are not, but are diminished by the fault of laziness. When will they enjoy wealth and respect that are a hundred times more? They will not be delighted in discipline and wisdom. When that foolish person's body is destroyed by that fault, they fall into the wrong path and are born in hell. Then, at that time, the Bhagavan with the crown spoke the verses, how so? From laziness comes little fortune, foolishness destroys the mind. All lazy beings do not have an auspicious birth. Deceitful, lazy, and sinful dharmas, drowsiness and sleep are also the same. They completely destroy the gate of liberation, this change is a great result. Shamelessness, lack of embarrassment, sinful friends, and revelry are the causes of suffering, the wise are not attached to them. Wrong pride, manifest pride, the thought of 'I,' all pride, are the root of the tree of suffering, always completely abandon these. Being controlled by laziness, one turns the abode of gods into hell. Breathing is also like being dead, those who are alive are also without purpose. People who are destroyed by laziness, even when alive, are not alive, they are worse than corpses, know that this is deceitful laziness. Whoever is sunk in the swamp of laziness, that one is sunk in the ocean of suffering. Whoever has diligence, crosses over the ocean of existence. Whoever is lazy and lacks diligence, is a wealthy animal who always likes food, that one is alive but also dead, and after death goes to hell. Whoever is a person with a share of suffering, that person is like an animal. The gods who eat the offerings of others, the cause of that is laziness. Most lazy people live off the daughters of others. They are especially attached to corpses and always enjoy sexual intercourse. That one, therefore, lacks discernment and is dedicated only to food. When the time of death comes, they burn their own mind. As long as heat and cold are together, and likewise hunger and thirst are together, do work with the body in that way. Because it is always the same, a lazy mind is not something to do.

The one who has the nature of laziness and indolence, his body constantly remains in samsara, and he cannot be liberated from suffering. Among a hundred people, there are many dangers, and the lazy person clings to the world, and eventually becomes a mute, without good wisdom, and faults are fully possessed by them and others. From the path of transcendence, it is an outsider and separate. The body of a lazy person completely declines from transcendence. How do the gods decline from the Dharma and discipline of the mundane and the transcendent, and how do they become obstacles to the gods? Here, the lazy person, by the mundane path, if due to the karma of experiencing many times, or due to focusing on good deeds, or due to being born in such a way that is destroyed by laziness, then for all desired sounds, tastes, touches, forms, and smells, he will not be happy. For the delightful gardens, he will not become the nature of running and stretching. He does not like the nature of singing, does not sing, does not fly in the middle of the sky, does not go from mountain top to mountain top, does not ride on the back of birds from wave to wave to play. In front of the one who is destroyed by happiness, the lord of non-contention will also go, and he will not combine all realms well. For him, all those realms have become a collection of enemies, they are lazy worldly people. How can it be an obstacle to the transcendent path? Here, the lazy person, for other gods who have the nature of hearing the sacred Dharma, and those who like the sacred Dharma, will not serve them well. He will turn away from the sacred Dharma, not listen to the unheard Dharma, nor remember the heard Dharma, nor be accustomed to it, nor be close to the guru, and does not have the nature of wisdom and discriminating consciousness. He is far from the sacred Dharma, and is associated with all good dharmas.
