DKG070 0001.The Noble and Sacred Dharma of Mindfulness, Well Established..g2.0f

English

The ignorant are not those with eyes. Those who follow after pleasure, Are running close to hell. Those who possess sacred conduct, The eyeless will not fall into hell. Therefore, the eyeless are supreme, Not those who are controlled by desire. Desire is not beneficial, It confuses the mind not just once. Being blinded by desires, One's own mind will not become weary. For the enjoyment of desires, There is neither knowledge nor consciousness. Having abandoned the suffering born from desire, Afterwards, one again follows after desire. Like the Kimpā fruit, The enemy of desire, in the form of a friend. The Lord of Death, falling into existence, And also the lower realms, again and again. Coming and going in various ways, Like an irreversible stream of water. Likewise, people have hundreds and thousands of pleasures, But not everything can be averted. Thus, the bird dwelling on the young leaves, impelled by true karma, spoke the verses. Then, those gods, possessing minds of great love, having heard that verse, acted with exceedingly weary minds: Since even you, who have become animals, have such wisdom that follows the Dharma, wouldn't we, who are not animals, be falling into wrong paths if we acted with such minds? Then, the gods also realized this, and some completely abandoned that river, reciting verses in one direction as follows: The life of all sentient beings, Is like a bubble on water. Shaking like the waves of a river, The youthfulness changes in an instant. All remaining sentient beings, Are under the control of the Lord of Death, And the skillful means to end existence, They do not generate the mind of wisdom. Before the body has aged, Before life has been exhausted, With the mind of Dharma, Make the beings of the lower realms fear. Thus, the gods spoke to each other of their desire to follow the Dharma, and having briefly kept the sacred Dharma in mind, because the senses are so pleasing, they again saw the unimaginable various desires, and the pleasing pleasures of the senses. Where were those gods rejoicing, and where were they constantly indulging?

Because of delighting in comfort, one draws near. Thus, due to complete delusion by external objects, it increases day by day. Because of being completely immersed in the objects of the five desirable qualities of divine substances, for those who are extremely fond of them, as long as their desired, beloved, and well-done various deeds are not exhausted, they will delight in them. Those who are perfectly endowed with the five objects of divine substances that bring supreme joy will delight in them. When these are exhausted, they will again be born in hells, among pretas, and as animals due to the power of karma. If they die and transmigrate from other realms, even if they are born as humans with the same fate as humans, they will become extremely wealthy. They will be extremely safe, possess wealth, be born into noble families, be in harmony with all the people of the region, be honored by all the people of the region, be without harm, be without disease, be extremely docile, and servants, maids, workers, and laborers will also be in harmony. They will be born in prosperous cities and regions. They will not be born in places where they do not know dharma and non-dharma, having become barbarians. They will also become complete in their faculties. They will be broad-minded, have a mind, and also be endowed with extremely powerful intelligence. Because they have done well and accumulated merit, and are extremely noble beings possessing three excellent qualities, they will certainly be born as gods because of being in accordance with the cause of karma that leads to rebirth as a god. The Forty-eighth Chapter of the Noble Dharma Mindfulness Sutra. Furthermore, O Bhikshu, when the wise one who knows the ripening of the fruits of karma observes the realm of the gods free from strife, he sees the realm of the gods free from strife as it is, through the wisdom arising from hearing, which is called constant practice. He sees through the wisdom arising from hearing by what actions beings are born, practicing the ultimate of virtuous actions, possessing an upright mind, believing in and following the Dharma, without degenerating or slandering.

By completely abandoning sinful conduct, he possesses the mind of a virtuous friend who has completely abandoned desires. He fears even the slightest fault. He manifests the correct view. He completely abandons sinful friends. And he always has faith in karma and its results. By abiding with great concentration, he performs good deeds with his body and good deeds with his speech, possessing the three qualities of discipline, guarding the discipline, namely, not killing, not stealing, and not engaging in sexual misconduct. For him, not killing and not stealing are as before. How does he abandon sexual misconduct? He does not even separately look at or taste even the hem of a woman's skirt. At night, he does not even mentally contemplate along with the image of the eye. He becomes less desirous and is very content. When going to a place to walk during the day, he also abides with great concentration. By grasping with a rope that is very well grasped, he quickly grasps the senses. He becomes endowed with intelligence that follows the body. He rejoices in guarding the mind well. He rejoices in thoroughly examining the realms, sources, and aggregates. He does not rejoice in gatherings and assemblies. He does not mix with objects of enjoyment even for half a day. He does not rely on the immovable, the violent, or the household. He does not become one who enters villages by nature. He does not become one who goes to cities, highways, and crossroads, and who comes and goes. He does not diligently visit relatives and friends. He becomes endowed with quick intelligence. He is always endowed with diligence. He is always diligent in the objects of knowledge and consciousness. Through proper attention, he always relies on the guru. Such a keeper of discipline, after the destruction of the body and death, from the realm of the gods of non-contention, is born among the gods who constantly wander in gatherings of gods. Even after being born, he is extremely endowed with entertainment and is extremely happy.
