Through great diligence in all matters, one will surely be completely united with goodness. Such a friend who causes one to act is transcendent. One will also be saved from all non-expedient means. One will become like one's parents. Only steadfast friends, only these will cause all sins to be completely exhausted. No faults will arise from being close to them. They are the best friends in the next life, not in this one. Therefore, the king should make steadfast friends. Those who closely rely on virtuous friends and also practice virtue will, after their body is destroyed and they die, become the masters of the strife-free gods in the upper realm of the happy realms. Furthermore, one should not associate with those who are not friends and do not bring about happiness. For example, one who only deceives all people, who shows the wrong path, and who thinks evil thoughts, associating with them will also lead to great non-virtue. The root of destruction is also twofold: extreme concealment and definite hiding. Among them, the so-called extreme concealment refers to deceiving worldly people, being extremely displeased, holding false signs, and other than that, like counterfeit goods, the thorns of heretics deceive themselves and others, abandoning the next world, extremely holding onto good appearances, doing non-virtuous things, one should not meet those thieves well or easily give praise, let alone go together. Being with them should also be avoided to the extreme. Because they do not have it themselves, how can they bring it to others? Those who abandon sinful friends should not follow the deceitful. Not doing hypocritical things, not being friends with them, one will truly act after careful consideration. One should not associate with rough friends. That is just that.

That which is imbued with habitual tendencies, even after the body is destroyed, will become the master of the gods of the Non-Contention realm in the upper realm of the happy realms, and that is caused by such causes and conditions. Furthermore, there are two dharmas that a king must abandon. What are the two? That is to say, one must strive to restrain anger and agitation. The king who can restrain anger and agitation will have a stable kingdom and will be able to subdue his own nature, so that they cannot subdue each other. No one can find fault with this. Those kings who can restrain anger will not do things that have not been considered. They will not suddenly move from their dwelling. They will not suddenly strike their servants. They will not reveal what should be kept secret. They will not suddenly cause increase and decrease. They will not be elated in joyous occasions. Even if his mind becomes base, he will not accomplish anything great. He will not follow those who are not virtuous. He will become steadfast in mind. Thus, the king who can restrain anger and agitation will be greatly praised even in worldly affairs. So, on the path that transcends the world, why are those who restrain the power of agitation and those who restrain anger praised here? Because the one who restrains anger binds one defilement of samsara. And the one who completely restrains the power of agitation in a beautiful way completely binds the power of desire. The one who can bind these two powerful defilements will bind the power of ignorance. The one who can bind the powers of the three defilements is the one who has wisdom, patience, steadfast wisdom, and a single-minded wisdom, and they, due to the maturation of those previous causes and conditions, will become the master of the gods of the Non-Contention realm in the upper realm of the happy realms when the body is destroyed. Furthermore, there are two more dharmas that should be avoided. What are the two? That is to say, the king excessively...

One should not have the nature of craving for food and drink. Why is that? A king who is excessively of the nature of food and drink will become drowsy and distracted. He will be very inclined to filling his belly. Because of that, he will become close by nature, and will become single-minded like livestock. His mind will not engage in other matters except for food and drink. Thus, possessing a mind and conduct that is universally attached, his mind having gone to that, he will not discern dharma and non-dharma. He will not pursue the country. He will not discern the affairs of the country. He will not properly admonish his own nature. He will not engage the ministers in burdens. He will not understand the heavy and light matters. He will always decline from matters. From that complete decline, he will also become impoverished, and that will also lose the name of food and drink. From that complete decline, he will also become the object of disgust for all worldly people, and will become extremely poor. That distraction of craving will cut off the affairs of the world, and because of being close to food and drink, he will also be reproached by those who have transcended the world. For example, even just being excessively of the nature of craving for food and drink, the mind having gone to that, those who have that state are always led by the craving for tastes, so the mind will not be kept in balance. The mindfulness belonging to the body will disappear. Feeling will also disappear. Mind will also disappear. Dharma will also disappear. Those included in suffering, origin, cessation, and path will also disappear. Except for respecting food and drink, the mind will not become easy to accept any of these other matters. That will become the same in nature as animals. From the places of enjoyment of food and drink, liberation from those efforts of various enjoyments of food is included in the actions of body and speech, and also the senses
