Saying that they recite these scriptures and the like, they will surely instruct those who accompany and are close to many hundreds and thousands of great matters. Likewise, they will also debate for others. They will surely make them understand. They will make them deeply remember in their hearts. That is merely the arrogance of knowledge that has been exhausted. Making all sentient beings recognize their own merits. Just as everyone can understand well, this is incomparable to the one who has transcended all knowledge, therefore telling worldly people. Moreover, they have very little hearing, their hearts are empty, piled up like mountains, empty and without substance, like empty containers, like autumn clouds. Regarding meditation as an external thing. The one who is offered by all people, when does he abandon the nature of meditation? Diligently striving, having the nature of an object, having vast hearing, extremely stable wisdom, adorned with the adornment of diligent practice, extremely cherishing the Buddha's teachings, having unwavering joy, tamed by the questions of great wisdom, dwelling in joy, the other monks, For those monks who are empty inside, piled up like mountains, and empty, they think: If I were to speak with those monks, in what way would they belittle me, thereby overwhelming me? Those donors and patrons who offer to me, they will not arise from those people either. They will also have greater power over me. The donors and patrons, because they are controlled by my arrogance, will not understand the meaning of things with their own wisdom. Because they are afraid of being overwhelmed by others, they will not ask questions. Even so, have some of these people heard from the Buddha, the Bhagavan himself? Or not? Because those people are empty inside, they are overwhelmed by others.

Because of the fear of being subdued by questioning, because of the fear of one's own defeat, one does not ask questions. By speaking falsely in this way, one transgresses the five training precepts. For example, lying, because he does not have knowledge or understanding, yet he still speaks, so he transgresses the first training precept. What other transgressions of the training precepts are there? For example, taking what is not given. He calls himself wise, therefore he is not worthy of receiving offerings made by donors and patrons. Because he takes (property) from those who are listening nearby, he will obstruct those of lesser intelligence. This taking of what is not given is a transgression of other training precepts. Furthermore, what is the transgression of the training precepts? For example, when a bhikshu becomes ordained, the training precepts that he has undertaken, and how to completely rely on discipline, how to abide in discipline, and with discipline as the goal, I have completely abandoned the household life, etc., these true disciplines, he has not heard. But he says to others: I have heard. This is another complete transgression of the training precepts. Furthermore, the transgression of the training precepts is: because of the fear of being subdued by others' questions and counter-questions, because of the fear of being surpassed, he always speaks of other dharmas. This dharma is the most painful, and this is extremely evil. Furthermore, what is the most difficult and serious transgression of the training precepts? For example, when he does not understand the holy Dharma, he says to those who are studying the holy Dharma: The meaning of these dharmas is profound, you have not truly heard the words of the Buddha. He uses this to denigrate the Sangha, saying: Only I truly understand these words, but the monks do not. He uses this to slander the Sangha.

Fearing the dread of becoming poor, they even preach the Dharma. If this Dharma is not the true Dharma, but a destroyer of the qualities of the true Dharma, a speaker of supreme falsehood, they will fall into evil destinies after the destruction of the body, and be born in the hells. Besides not asking, there is also a supreme fault. Regarding this very act of not asking, if one enters the forest fearing the dread of being overcome by pride itself, how can the path arise here without asking those who show the pith instructions of the noble path? How should the object be kept in mind? In what ways will one fall away from the object? Although one may try to keep it in mind again, due to the fault of pride, one does not ask others. Thus, not having found the path, one becomes very discouraged. Then, rising again from the lotus posture, one thinks: "Those arrogant things I have done are meaningless," and becoming discouraged, one thinks: "There is no path here, no meditation, no samadhi." He, fearing the fault of pride and the dread of being overcome, will slander the fruits of meditation and the fruits of samadhi, because he has not asked at all. That holder of wrong views, after the destruction of the body, will fall into evil destinies after death, and be born in the hells. Then, at that time, the Blessed One Light-Protector spoke the verses, saying: "As one who knows oneself and is free from pride, as one who asks the lama, a monk who is diligent and endowed, is one who realizes nirvana. As much as one has heard, so much one preaches. One who knows oneself and is free from pride, that one is a wise monk. Utterly free from pride and extremely without pride, those who are skilled in the path of wisdom, knowing oneself and others with skillful means, contentment is what is said of a monk. One with pride and a mind of anger, one who is cunning and of little wisdom, one who desires gain and respect, how can peace arise? One who does not ask is one with pride and a mind of anger."
