One is completely liberated from the fear of birth and aging. Thus, they are worthy of being monks. Conversely, they are merely monks in name, for by the very act of obstructing, they utterly fall, and thus become utterly fallen. When meditating, these six obstructing dharmas should not be practiced here by a mendicant. Furthermore, those who have vowed to be mendicants and practitioners should not engage in seven practices. What are these? Namely: Accepting gain and respect from other worldly people. This is covetousness, and with increased malice, one who is separated from all meditative practices seeks only a seat. Merely with the appearance of a monk, one enjoys the bedding of the Sangha, medicine for illness, and possessions. One is frightened by the fears of household affairs. A lazy person, only delighting in food, pays special attention to observing the joys of others. For a monk who is overly focused on worldly matters, if such things occur, the Lord of Death will come. Thus, the death of a monk, just as if one has completely fallen from discipline, the death of the body's destruction is no different. A morally corrupt person, having abandoned all virtuous dharmas, seeks only a seat. Merely holding the appearance of a monk, one is separated from vows. What is to be tamed is also well tamed by the mind. But this person cannot do it. Therein, taming is of seven kinds. Namely: speech is tamed. A monk should not speak together with another monk, or with a householder, at the same time. In all ways, a monk should avoid expressing affection with words to women. Alms-seekers should also remain apart from those who give alms, calling them mother or sister, with their eyes cast down at their own toes. Regarding their happiness or appearance, or ornaments, etc., a monk should

Also, do not look at women. Then, at that time, the Blessed One Light Protector spoke in verses. How so? The wind skillfully relies on a spark, and after a long time, it is burned by fire. All that arises from looking at women, this fire quickly burns. Therefore, those who fear being burned by the fire of desire, the monks who fear should not speak openly with women, this is the first precept. Furthermore, the second precept is: associating with sinful friends. One should not rejoice in dwelling in one place for a long time, one should abandon those who have become the majority of gains and respect, one should not abandon the sick, visit sons and daughters, abandon those places that are highly valued, and in order to avoid the fear of becoming a ghost, one should also strongly prohibit living and associating with those who have broken their vows. Having abandoned those seven precepts, if one is particularly focused on food, seeing or hearing about the gains and respect that others have obtained, great displeasure will arise. He will also contemplate those methods: what method should I use to become the possessor of those gains and respect? Thinking and discriminating in this way, his mind will be completely disturbed. Those actions will cause greed to increase and wander everywhere. That evil practitioner, because everything he hears is evil, cannot be at peace during the day or at night. A monk who possesses discipline, going to the homes of donors and patrons, will put on a hypocritical appearance. Speaking slowly, walking slowly, even if the mind is not at peace, he will strongly show peace on the outside. Wearing patched clothes. Together with those who are completely contrary to the innate discipline, whose behavior is like the sound of a conch shell, and who have a sinful nature, going to those homes.

He is good at showing his own discipline. However universally he acts, the donors and patrons will say, "Alas, this monk is one who possesses excellent discipline." Like this, he strives to abide in himself, and together with those actions and their accompanying actions, he walks well again and again in that household. If he goes from somewhere and hears the words of the sacred Dharma, he will expound it to the retinues of those patrons and donors. He will think, "How can I make the gains and respect of those monks become mine?" These sinful people are thieves in the guise of monks, stealing the gains and respect of others. Walking in each and every household, they especially like to harm others, and there is not even the blink of an eye for those who try to stop him. Even if there is not, even for a moment, even for a short time, whether it is night or day, those evil monks who have abandoned the practice of meditation on discipline, will not fall into hell, nor will they be reborn as pretas, nor will they go to the animal realms. Furthermore, this monk, together with all the co-born beings, formerly, when another monk with discipline went to that household, he would tell the retinues, or he would slander the discipline of this person. Or he would scold this person, like this, he would scold very much, saying, "Which monk has entered your household, he is a person of broken discipline, lazy, extremely vile, foolish like a bird, of low intelligence." Like this, for those who especially like to scold, and who are always diligent, how will those who have become such practitioners of Dharma enter into the practice of meditation? That is something that can be accumulated, empty, meaningless, because after his body is destroyed and he dies, he will fall into the evil realms and evil paths, and fall into the hells.
