What should I do? What good are those austerities? Will desires come at the time of death? You must go elsewhere. After saying this, Kauśika placed the Bhagavan's robe on one shoulder, bowed his crown, prostrated with his head at his feet, and then sat to one side and asked: Bhagavan, do we have a way to not suffer on this seat? Like this, becoming the king of the Thirty-three Gods, do you see these causes, my seat, the superior seat, and other causes that can also do it? After this request, the Bhagavan said: Kauśika, from where one dies, will one be born again on that same seat? Like that, the karma that one will definitely experience, no other cause can do, by what cause, at what time will you be born on the seat and become the king of the Thirty-three Gods? I have seen these causes, and I have also seen your seat and the superior seat, and other causes. If you listen to my Dharma, you will not decline like that. After saying this, Kauśika again joined his palms and said: World Protector Bhagavan, I desire to hear that Dharma. After this request, the Bhagavan explained in detail the faults of desires, the bad experiences, and the means of definitely renouncing them, so that Kauśika obtained the fruit of stream-entry. After that, Kauśika obtained the fruit and also closed the doors of death, birth, and the lower realms. Because of this cause of excellent arising, the gods free from strife did not see Kauśika's eighteenth rebirth on the walls of the stupa. That will be Nirvana, because that is the other shore beyond all, so there will be no eighth rebirth. Because of these reasons, I am telling you all.

Thereafter, at that time, Musulinda spoke verses, how: Wealth born of desire is not visible, why that born of desire has no wealth. The ultimate doer of good, discipline and faith are the supreme wealth. Wealth born of desire can also, show the solitary place of existence. Whoever is liberated from desire, is said to be a treasure emanation. Status does not protect any good, from which happiness does not arise. Wealth that exhausts all wealth, is said not to be truly wise. Desires are those that are extremely relied upon, those riches are seen not to be riches. The guide is the most supreme, the one who speaks the path is auspicious. By which path does one reach the supreme status, the wise go there. Any desire that is not excessively attached, any desire that is not a great desire. He enters the place of wisdom, does not excessively rely on the fire of desire. Desire is never satisfied, desire does not remember peace. Completely endowed together with greed, burns like burning. Likewise, gods, humans, lustful snakes, destroy completely without satisfaction. The completely exhausted always, are like the exhausted fire of hell. Thus, Musulinda convinced those gods in many ways. Rightly and completely protecting them. Then, those gods again with extremely dejected minds, became very discouraged, and again said to Musulinda: Please, may the gods temporarily indicate to us separately, where we will be reborn. He said, "Let it be so," and then again separately observed the walls of that stupa. Then, those gods free from strife died and were reborn, falling in various ways into revivals and black lines, and gathering destruction and wailing, and great wailing and heat, and extreme heat and hells, seeing many bodies of gods with heads hanging down and feet looking up, and about to die. Some will be born and cooked there. Some are eaten by vultures and crows in the nature of extremely burning iron burns.

Filled everywhere with fire, filled here with many terrifying things, filled entirely here with blazing sand. Gods with their heads facing down are cooked on this hellish ground. Extremely rough, extremely unbearable, experiencing supremely cruel various feelings. The messengers of Yama repeatedly turn back and also speak afterwards. Oneself is seen in such various forms. Like other lords of non-contention, many others, in these very regions, they also see being born in hell. Extremely angry, experiencing the pain of being pierced in various ways, and whatever is done by a mind distracted by desire, and having been destroyed by objects, even those accompanied by doubt, and those accompanied by characteristics, and those accompanied by manifestation, all of them, and those who have great faith in objects, whatever you have done, enjoy those fruits, the messengers of Yama also declare thus. The names of those lords of non-contention are these: Great Action, Good Assembly that Perfects, Possessing Splendor, Mind Rejoicing Because Not Uncontrolled, Not Extremely Violent, Form Completely Rejoicing. Those lords of non-contention, having fallen into the seven hells, how they are well bound by the noose of karma, and those who experience the fruits of good and bad deeds. They closely enjoy the best of objects, and having been destroyed by desire because of insatiability, they fall. For a time, the Great Action one, with a mind full of mindfulness, having offered food to a self-Buddha (i.e., a Pratyekabuddha), his body having decayed, from the heavens and happy migrations, he obtained the state of a lord of non-contention. He enjoyed various divine desires there, and because of craving for objects, he fell from that heavenly realm into hell.
