One sees the emanations of those. Moreover, in other places, one sees the gods of the four great kingly classes who have died and transmigrated from the world of gods and been born as pretas. From those pleasant foods of that kind, they will be born in desolate places of such great hunger and thirst. They will be completely enveloped in darkness, their faces unseen by hair of that kind that has become covered with garments of that kind. They become like a burning dry tree in a forest, some are completely burned, and some, though tormented by the misery of hunger and thirst on a blazing iron plain, do not find even a drop of water the size of a dewdrop. Having died and transmigrated from wandering in the world of gods, those who will be thoroughly cooked in the thirty-six kinds of preta grounds, if one sees clearly that crows, owls, and vultures are eating their faces and eyes all over, it is because they have enjoyed the heavenly lands of that kind that are soft and very smooth, that throb greatly when pressed down and pulsate when lifted up, but having again been born into the state of pretas, one sees that it is extremely rough with seven heaps of embers, being dug by vajra beaks, and completely filled with great thorns of durva grass. Furthermore, having carried odors of that kind, such as mandārava and kuśeśaka, and hundreds and thousands of kinds of great sources of odors, they later become pretas wandering in cemeteries amidst the excrement, urine, and corpses that have become completely stained with impurity, smelling the impure odors of that kind in various ways. Their nostrils will be completely filled with ants that have become blazing, and those pretas are indeed those who have been born in the birthplaces of pretas. Likewise, those who have been born in previous birthplaces, desiring foods of various kinds of pleasant implements, including color,

Due to the perfection of enjoyment, beings who are later born into the realm of pretas (hungry ghosts) experience even more suffering than those subjected to extreme punishment, becoming extremely unclean, with utterly vile odors and tastes. If one were to describe it, it would be like the extremely unclean excrement of hundreds of years! Or, with bodies extremely emaciated, they are reduced to eating feces, as one might see on the walls of a stupa. Though they may have worn clothes that were exceedingly soft, extremely thin, unsewn, adorned with various jewels, in accordance with the heavens, and supremely delightful, they are blown by the wind, and the fragrance of various flowers is completely exhausted. Later, being born again into the world of pretas, they become utterly naked, with standing bodies that are extremely thick and rough, bodies entirely covered with yellow hair, filled with hundreds and thousands of worms that constantly gnaw and devour them like eating oily dregs. Born into the world of pretas, beings with bodies scorched by hunger and thirst weep every day, tears streaming down their faces, which become extremely coarse in various ways for a long time, experiencing the sufferings of pretas. Deceived by carelessness, they completely fall from the realm of the gods, and thus descend into the state of pretas. Furthermore, on another side of the stupa's wall, when groups wander, the wandering gods and the gods belonging to the retinue of the Four Great Kings, upon dying and transmigrating, are born in various forms into the animal realm, experiencing various lands, places, and species, and going to three different states. For example, in the water, aquatic beings devour each other, experiencing extremely terrifying and harsh circumstances caused by cold and heat. On land, terrestrial beings are scorched by the sun's rays, their bodies utterly exhausted by hunger and thirst.

Those who have been burned, terrified by the fears of killing and binding each other, experiencing hundreds and thousands of situations of extreme suffering. Driven by unwholesome actions, in the forests and near the forests, beings are enjoying these, which is difficult to express. Similarly, in the sky, the great beings who move in the sky, and the extremely small ones, the assembled and the un-assembled, embodied birds, experiencing unbearable situations of extreme suffering generated by the thought of harming each other. Deceived by the carelessness of the gods, they are born as animals. Similarly, those other beings who are destroyed by obvious carelessness, those particularly excellent virtuous beings, having died and transferred from the world of the gods to the world of humans, enjoy various virtuous deeds as their virtuous deeds are exhausted. All beings born in the human world by enjoying virtuous and non-virtuous actions are immersed in the suffering of thorough seeking, the inferior, the intermediate, and the excellent, all experience increase and decrease in accordance with their wealth, in various places and times, in accordance with the practice of Dharma. It becomes clearly visible on the walls of the stupa. Therefore, if one adheres to and cultivates those virtuous actions, and practices them many times, then through the uninterrupted, unconfused, un-leaked, stable, and extremely purified mind of the near-abiding, eightfold noble path, or the result of the ripening that is certainly desired, thrown by the virtuous actions of the vast majority of the three types of actions. Or thrown by taking refuge in the Three Jewels, or thrown by giving fearlessness and Dharma to sentient beings, or other actions that are in accordance with these.
