Again, the king of the gods, Indra, went there and clearly saw that household, surrounded on all sides by those goddesses who were skilled in various rituals. They danced, laughed, and sang. Thus, one garden of the king of the gods, Indra, possessed the perfect aspect of merit. One garden of the king of the gods, Indra, was like that. Then, that monk contemplated the second garden of the king of the gods, Indra, thinking: How many forms does that garden have? What is its name? He investigated with the wisdom arising from hearing, and learned that there was a garden called "Universal Joy." He also wondered: How many merits are there in that garden? He investigated with the wisdom arising from hearing, and learned: Like this, that garden is inherently universally joyful. That garden is filled with gatherings of gods and goddesses, who are extremely joyful. They constantly gather from all directions, generating high spirits among themselves. The king of the gods, Indra, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of goddesses, goes there to enjoy pleasure. When the king of the gods, Indra, goes, eighty-four thousand chariots going to the pleasure garden are made of vaidurya, and many bells hang from them. Some have horse heads adorned with gold from the Jambu River, their ribs filled with silver and adorned with the seven precious jewels, and are drawn by them. Some are drawn by swans, some travel in the sky, and some travel on the ground. The lords of the gods, surrounded by songs, cymbals, and various musical instruments, enter them, and go as Indra's retinue. The bodies of eighty-four thousand white yaks are covered with golden nets, bells hang on their bodies, and their bodies are covered with colorful cushions and mats. Clear silver spots drip from their cheeks. When they sing heavenly music and songs, the lords of the gods ride on them, looking only at Indra, surrounding Indra and going to the pleasure garden. Eighty-four thousand goddesses, holding various kinds of clothing and ornaments, appearing in various colors and forms, look only at Indra, and some dance.

Hearing the sound of drums and various musical instruments, they, together with other gods, heard these sounds, and their hearts were filled with joy, so they ran over. They held lotuses in their hands, played various musical instruments, sang songs, and came out of the garden. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, saw them and said to his gods: 'O gods, these goddesses saw me from the Garden of Universal Joy and came to greet me, accompanied by the sounds of musical instruments and music, and also various jewels and forms, gods, look at them. Let us go with these goddesses to play and enjoy ourselves in the celestial garden.' Then, after hearing the words of the Lord of the Gods, Indra, the gods spoke these words: 'Lord of the Gods, all these goddesses are yours, you are our refuge, you are our support, you are our protector.' Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, spoke these words: 'The leader of these is not me, the support is not me, the refuge is not me, these are not mine.' These are running swiftly by the power of karma, the master is karma, the support is karma, the trust is karma. Whether it is bad karma, middling karma, or good karma, it will change in that way. It is the power of karma that makes it bad, middling, or good, not my power.' Then, at that time, the Lord of the Gods spoke in verses like this: 'By bad karma, sentient beings fall into bad realms. By middling karma, one sees the middle state. By good karma, people become better. Whatever karma is done, whenever and wherever, one will experience the result. At that time and place, that karma will ripen on the body. A temple filled with garlands of light, playing in a state of bliss, that is seen as the fruit of virtue, especially pure and without stain. Whatever karma people do, whether virtuous or non-virtuous, the result is seen at that time, experiencing happiness or unhappiness. With these forms of bliss, whatever gods play to their heart's content, that is not my cause, but the karma done in the past.' Then, the gods heard those verses from the mouth of Indra and followed them.
