Thus he spoke: As the arising of a new day makes the old disappear, so do new pleasures and sufferings cause one to nearly forget the old. Thus, in the world of the gods, those beings who cling to pleasure—the end of their lives is death, and how can the end of separation be endured? Like mixing wood with honey, like mixing poison with food, likewise, the end of all these pleasures is unhappiness, which is not realized. Especially in the heavenly realms, how can one be satiated with seeing the realms? Those who are never satiated with desire, how can they be happy in particular? From the power of extreme pleasure, there is inherent desire in the heavenly realms. The fire of desire completely burns all beings, and the proximity of happiness is not perceived. To enjoy pleasure alone, free from desire, without self, without hope, and to go to the city of nirvana is to attain that happiness. Those who are accustomed to the sleep of desire and do not place their minds in original awareness are free from the defilements of beginning and end, and they are happy even in happiness. When the mind is extremely gathered, without hope in all things, and not confused about what should and should not be done, happiness always dwells nearby. Those who have destroyed the cause of samsara, who have conquered the arising of joy, that steadfast lord goes to the other shore and dwells in the bliss of nirvana. Whoever has attachment and hatred, with desire, has no happiness. Whoever is freed from the fire of attachment is said to be stainless and happy. Thus, that monk, seeing those gods dwelling in carelessness, whose fire of desire was increasing intensely as if it were a single day, felt compassion. Then, those gods, together with their retinues of goddesses, went to a garden called "Abundant with Greenery," where the retinues of goddesses were bustling about, making music, singing songs, and uttering various kinds of laughter. Surrounded by them, they dwelt in happiness, indulging in pleasure in the garden. Some of them, surrounded by retinues of goddesses, went through the sky like birds. Some went in immeasurable palaces carried by swans. Some went in immeasurable palaces with companions. Some, surrounded by those very retinues of goddesses, went on foot. Those who dwelt in happiness, singing songs and without any physical fatigue, all went to the garden called "Abundant with Greenery."

Then they went to that place. Then, in that garden, the other gods who had come before saw those other gods, and then they were very happy and their hearts were very satisfied. Then, the newly arrived gods and the old gods mingled with each other, and the sounds of clamor and music arose, and great joy and pleasure arose. That garden, thick with smoke, was filled with various sounds, such as the sound of flutes, the sound of lutes, the sound of earthenware drums, the sound of waist drums, the sound of goddesses adorned with ornaments, and likewise there were sounds of singing and laughter, and the sound of rivers, lakes, and many kinds of water flowing, and the sound of precious birds of various colors and shapes, and the sound of the gods' songs, which were pleasant to hear. Thus, that garden was filled with all kinds of pleasant sounds. In that garden, there were divine medicines, birds, rivers, lotuses, flowers, abundant fruits, and the five desirable qualities of the gods. The gods enjoyed the pleasures of the garden and experienced happiness. Having emerged from that garden, they again went to the summit of the mountain called 'Distinct Appearance,' surrounded by a host of goddesses. When those gods went there, they arrived at the summit of the mountain of Distinct Appearance. On that summit of Mount Distinct Appearance, which was rich with a pond of divine lotuses and a garden near the lotuses, the great king Holy Born One dwelt, surrounded by a host of goddesses. He accomplished the benefit of all the worlds, and pondered how many in the human world possess Dharma and the worldly morality born of Dharma, how many do not possess Dharma, how many accomplish benefit for the world, how many do not benefit the world, whether the power of the sacred Dharma is greater or the power of non-Dharma is greater, whether the Asuras on the side of demons are steadfast, or whether the Naga subduers and others are more powerful. Thus, he protected beings and dwelt on that All-Illuminating Mountain (Rikun Sang). The sun revolved around the side of Mount Meru not too far from that mountain peak.
