Release it! Banish this Rahu! Thus it was commanded. Then, as commanded by the lord of the gods, Indra, the gods adorned their bodies with various jewels and ran to the Rahu, son of the lioness, in order to make a 'thab mo' (a ritual to avert misfortune). Then, when he saw those gods, Rahu would return to his own abode. Then again, the monk who knows the ripening of the fruits of karma contemplates the eclipse of the moon by Rahu, wondering how Rahu seizes the moon. He speculates with the knowledge that comes from hearing: the attendants of Rahu, who always walk on the surface of the ocean, see the moon coming from the peak of the eastern mountain to Jambudvipa, appearing a hundred times more beautiful in the center of the light of lapis lazuli. The attendants of Rahu then report to Rahu: Great King, the full moon is coming, looking just like the face of a goddess! Then, having heard this, Rahu, desiring to see the moon because of his lust for the goddess, arises from his own land and, wishing to touch the face of the goddess, eclipses the orb of the moon from afar. At that time, those gods who adorn their bodies with many jewels as before are seen by the logicians of Jambudvipa, who then tell the people of the land: There is a black planet! There is a red planet! There is a yellow planet! The year will be good! The year will be bad! It will be favorable to the king! It will be unfavorable to the king! There will be war! There will be peace! Thus they say. The planets reside outside of the Western Godaniya, the Eastern Videha, and the Northern Kuru. If they eclipse the sun and moon, then there are no logicians or heretics in those continents. Thus, for such a reason, the planets eclipse the orbs of the moon and sun. The logicians also show the sky collapsing, and the asuras, with Rahu dwelling beneath the earth, say: Alas! How does the lord of the gods, कौषिक (kauśika, कौषिक,kaushika, 憍尸迦) , on the summit of Mount Meru, possess the beautiful city and the assembly hall of the gods, Sudharma, endowed with the five desirable qualities of the gods?

residing and experiencing all kinds of happiness. Thus, the king of the gods is Kauśika. Our king is you, therefore, you are the most powerful and possess the greatest magical abilities, so we should wage war against the gods with power, and we should also destroy their city. Thus they say. Thus, the lord of the Asuras, Rāhu, being provoked by the Asuras, utters a loud sound and quickly departs from the city of light. When he utters that sound, the logicians say: This thunder is a sign from the heavens, foretelling a good year, or foretelling a bad year, or it will be favorable to the king, or it will be unfavorable to the king, or there will be war, or there will be no war. They perform sacrifices, doing things for pacification and well-being. Then, the lord of the Asuras, Rāhu, thinks thus: As long as the jewels in the city of light are shining brightly, my palace will also shine brightly; if the light is not bright, then its light will also dim. The light of the gods is also like jewels, namely the full moon and the sun. I shall obscure each of those two orbs. Having done so, the light of the gods will disappear. Thinking thus, if this thought arises during the day, then he, as before, with one hand obscures the solar orb, and with the other hand touches the summit of Mount Meru. Then, the gods, seeing his hand, prepare to fight. Then, because he belongs to the animal realm, his courage is weak, and seeing the bodies of the gods adorned with various precious jewels, bodies of splendor, he becomes fearful and retreats back to the city of light beneath the earth. This is the second cause of the eclipse of the sun and moon by Rāhu, and of thunder. Then again, a monk who knows the ripening of the fruits of karma contemplates the happiness of the great Asura lord Rāhu, and he investigates with the wisdom born of hearing, thus, his city...
