Having lost their power and having no joy, thinking of their sons and wives in their hearts, they run towards the gate of the underworld. The Asura king, the steadfast one, also desiring to live, runs from his own abode towards the gate of the underworld. The Asura king Rahu, desiring to live, with only a large body remaining, also runs towards the gate of the underworld. Thus, when all those Asura kings and their retinues are defeated, the gods are very happy and say: "The Asuras, having obtained the remnants of the fruits of discord, have become those who seek a place of escape. We will watch them and seize the gate of the underworld." Having said this, the very happy gods, like the wind scattering the clouds, harm the Asuras everywhere with the force of the wind. Then, Indra said to those gods: "Why have you done these meaningless, resentful, and sinful things, for the sake of destroying your own bodies and for the sake of causing many of these Asuras to lose their lives? The victory and defeat of the gods depend on humans, and now there are still steadfast people in the human world who possess the Dharma and follow the Dharma. Knowing those places and times, why have you done these meaningless acts of enmity that lead to your own destruction?" Release those living beings who will eventually be defeated, and let them return to their own abodes!" In such thoughts and efforts, then, the heart of the Lord of the Gods was moistened with compassion, and he said: Asuras such as Rahula have been defeated, do you not have compassion in your hearts? After saying this, he summoned all the gods residing in the Good Dharma Hall of the heavens, and then returned. Afterwards, the gods of the Four Great Kings, seeing the Lord of the Gods returning, said to the Thirty-three Gods: The Lord of the Gods has returned! Since the Lord of the Gods has returned, you should all return as well! After saying this, the gods who had gained victory returned, and then again, with joyful hearts, they returned to their own abodes. The Lord of the Gods, Indra, was also praised by the Thirty-three Gods, and riding on the son of the earth-protector, with a joyful heart, he ascended to the Good Dharma Hall of the Thirty-three Gods, and then returned. The gods also returned to their respective abodes, and then placed their armors and tools in the gardens of various chariots. The elephant, the son of the earth-protector, also gathered those emanations, returned to his normal state, and entered his own pond covered with lotuses and utpala flowers. Thus, the gods returned to the heavenly realm, enjoying pleasant forms, sounds, smells, and tastes, dwelling in places endowed with the five qualities of heavenly desire. The Dragon King, Dhritarashtra, and the son of Vaishravana, etc., the victors, were also extremely joyful, returning to their own abodes full of enjoyment. The remaining forces of the Asuras, having been defeated, became extremely weak, and those extremely dejected and ashamed beings who lowered their heads were greeted by women who were weeping bitterly and were of low spirits. Rahu said to those Asura kings who had lost their courage: Did I not say before that now is not the time to fight? Even now, there are beings in the human world who hold the Dharma and follow the Dharma.
