And, animals and humans. The pretas are related to them, causing sentient beings to experience the suffering of hell, especially experiencing many sufferings. There are twenty different places in the desire realm, some also explain as ten. The main thing is to understand all those different things. Then, those gods heard those dharmas from the mouth of Indra, and again praised Indra, saying in verses like this: The one who pacifies everything most excellently, Indra, you have explained this dharma. When fear and panic arise, may we abide in practice. The dharma that you teach, is to benefit others. The one who shows the path to nirvana, that is the father, that is the mother. A single well-spoken word, the one who shows what is shown, that is the one who knows other paths, and becomes the protector of sentient beings. For the well-spoken word, Indra, there is no value, because it cannot be obtained with wealth, the word of peace is obtained. Wealth is seen as being enjoyed in common, but the wisdom of the dharma does not increase. The wealth of humans will be exhausted, but the wealth of the dharma will not be exhausted. In thousands of lifetimes of rebirth, one dharma goes along with it. Even if only one step is taken, wealth does not go along with it. Kings, thieves, water, etc., seize the wealth of people. But the wealth of the dharma, they can never seize. Thus, those gods made offerings to Indra. After making offerings, they sat down again in front of Indra. Indra also did those excellent deeds of the heart, and showed that all those pleasures of the gods are also impermanent, unstable, and without self, and also made the emanation disappear. Then, those gods went to the places that correspond to nirvana and are enjoyed in common, and there, as long as desire is beautiful, each experiences it as they please, and as long as the deeds that accomplish happiness are not exhausted, not abandoned, and not touched, they rejoice. Afterwards, they die from the ranks of the gods, and after death, they also correspond to the deeds and causes shown before,

Those mostly will not go to evil destinies. Those born among humans will possess good Dharma and will follow the Dharma. They will always reside in monasteries and will always fear the afterlife. Having heard the Dharma, they will also ordain. Some will be seen to progress from stream-enterer to Arhat. Then, the monk, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, contemplates the gods of the Thirty-Three. With the knowledge gained from hearing, he sees how the abode of the gods of the Thirty-Three, called 'dwelling in a circle,' exists. Then, wondering which beings will be born there, he investigates with the knowledge gained from hearing. He finds that noble individuals who possess Dharma and follow Dharma, who are upright and of an upright nature, who do not harm others, who always observe the truth of the fruits of karma, who are completely pure in all disciplines, who are always exceedingly joyful, who have completely abandoned deceit, who are flawless in every way like refined gold, who have right view, who are led by right view, whose discipline is pure, who fear the afterlife, who give alms and accumulate merit, will be born there. For example, in monasteries, many monks who wish to always cut the bonds of Mara meditate. They become afflicted by heat, and to those afflicted by heat or afflicted by thirst, they give sugar candy and water, or they give fans, or they give fans with handles; such an act is giving alms. What is the manner of abandoning killing? Here, those who rely on households and possess wealth, for the sake of those people, thinking, 'They will play,' the householder buys with goods birds such as cuckoos or peacocks that are familiar in the garden, those birds that from then on will become unseen or die, and then sets them free. Those birds also return to the garden itself, dwell there, and then live again and are allowed to closely experience happiness. That is abandoning killing. How does one refrain from taking what is not given?
