They go to the place of battle. Then, gods and non-gods will engage in battle in the ocean. When those who possess Dharma and follow Dharma arise, the gods who move everywhere quickly defeat the non-gods. After the gods defeat the non-gods, they then go to the place where the lord of the non-gods, Rahu, is. Then, those non-gods dwelling in the second non-god abode, seeing their own side manifestly defeated, say, "If we engage in battle here, why do the non-gods flee? Why do the non-gods flee?" Then, the non-gods again rush to where the gods are in battle. Then, gods and non-gods in the midst of the ocean engage in a great battle of mutual harm. Then, when the gods are victorious, the gods manifestly defeat the army of the non-gods. At that time, the non-gods dwelling in a place surrounded by fear go to where the gods are. Then, the gods, seeing that unbearable army of non-gods, settle down. Then, the non-gods again go to where the gods are to engage in battle, and those great battles are waged against each other. Then, when the gods are defeated, the protectors of the world go to where the gods holding whisks in their hands are, saying, "The non-gods are manifestly afflicting us, run! Run!" Having heard this, the gods holding whisks in their hands go to where the non-gods are to engage in battle. Then, those gods holding whisks in their hands, with various weapons and implements, go to where the non-gods are. Then, having manifestly seen those gods, the non-gods again rush forth in anger. Then, the gods holding whisks in their hands and those non-gods wage a great battle of mutual entanglement, and they manifestly declare that this battle between gods and non-gods is unparalleled. When beings who possess Dharma and follow Dharma arise, the gods holding whisks in their hands.

When the gods holding fly-whisks were defeated, the world-protectors went to where the gods holding divine staffs were, saying: Please defeat the Asuras! Observing those Asuras, the gods holding divine staffs began to run. The gods wandered everywhere, and those holding fly-whisks and those holding divine staffs also gathered together. The Holder of the Earth and the son of Wealth-Increase, etc., also gathered together. The retinue of the Asura Rahula, those dwelling in the radiant city, those at the top of the two trees, those dwelling in the two places, and those with neck garlands, countless billions gathered together and waged a great battle. When they possessed Dharma and followed Dharma, the side of the gods would be victorious, and the side of the Asuras would be defeated.

If we are in your army, why do friends flee? Why do they flee? The gods are few, and they are no more superior to you. They are not diligent, and we shall defeat the gods. Therefore, lords of the Asuras, return! Having spoken thus, the lords of the Asuras, having heard those words from Rahu, the Asuras returned to battle with the gods. Then again, the gods and Asuras engaged in battle with various forms of chaotic weapon clashes. At that time, those residing in the second abode of the Asuras, holding two tree tops, and those residing in the third abode, belonging to the necklace pattern, all returned to battle with the gods. At those times, when beings arise who do not accord with Dharma and do not follow Dharma, then the side of the Asuras defeats the side of the gods. If beings arise who accord with Dharma and follow Dharma, then those on the side of the gods defeat the side of the Asuras. Thus, the gods are the masters of Dharma, the banners of Dharma, devoted to Dharma. All those Asuras do not accord with Dharma, rely on non-Dharma, and are not protected by Dharma. Then the gods thought to themselves: Alas, why do these Asuras torment us so? They are neither superior to us, nor equal to us. In Jambudvipa, there are still many who uphold and give, who accord with Dharma and follow Dharma, who serve the elders, observe the fasts, also give alms, also perform meritorious deeds, and people who abide in mindfulness with mindfulness. Therefore, those who abide in mindfulness with mindfulness, having done their time of death, will be born among the gods, and will not cause the Dharma of the Asuras to increase or arise. Having recognized that in this way, the Wanderers, the Garland Bearers, the Kundipakas, and the gods who are always intoxicated, carrying the banners of Dharma, all those gods rush without hesitation to where the army of the Asuras is, and say thus: Asuras, stop!
