Having completely abandoned attachment to defilements, one should always remain stable and not be deprived of warmth by others. Furthermore, one should fully understand the fourteenth thing, which is to dwell in a heap of rags, or to be content with rags, and for the sake of contentment, to wear very worn-out clothes. Furthermore, a monk who is content and has few desires destroys the hosts of demons, therefore, one should fully understand the fifteenth thing, what is the fifteenth? It is to abandon evil friends, to dwell alone, and to show dwelling alone, this is entered from beginningless time, and it tames the solid mountain of afflictions. Thus, one who is content and has few desires is extremely happy, and even at the time of death, he will not be controlled by the messengers of Yama. The messengers of Yama will not see the ugly forms, faces, and eyes that have been transformed, and will become very fearless. Then, Indra spoke in verses as follows: How, how is the contented one, Who constantly practices restraint and diligence, Thus, thus to the place of peace, He enters before it. In all things, there is no action, In Nirvana, he is diligent, He in the realm of demons, Will never enter. Whose mind is free from desire, Constantly diligent, and Always diligent in wisdom, How could he desire suffering? Past fears are well remembered, Even if it happens now, he is wise, Whoever is content with the future, He is liberated from the bonds of affliction. Always happy with mindfulness, Never intimate with the past, He who relies on stainless wisdom, Dwells on the edge of Nirvana. Even carelessness becomes a loss, The gods attain great happiness, Whoever dwells in carelessness, That person will die, Why speak of the one who is foolish and indulges in carelessness, And relies on it? Whoever is always the water of wisdom, Nourishing and not very intoxicated, Mindfulness among carelessness, This is the most desired. Carelessness is the root of suffering, Abandon faults like death. Thus, Indra teaches the Dharma to those gods who are frightened and terrified by the people transformed by Yama. Those gods whose minds are very joyful and desirous, that person of Yama

and, having clearly seen with their minds the disappearance of the forms of those gods, the minds of those gods were filled with joy. Then, those gods who were hiding in the gardens and near the gardens because of fear also saw Indra and went to where he was, and Indra was also teaching the Dharma. Indra understood their minds, and in order to make the minds of those gods rejoice, he gradually made those manifestations disappear. Then, those who developed respect for the Dharma listened to the Dharma and also prayed to Indra: 'Like this, the power of the Dharma has manifested before us. How you teach us these Dharmas, those messengers of Yama will flee and disappear like that.' The power of the Dharma and discipline spoken by the Blessed One, just hearing it can do so, then what need to mention the practitioners, they will reach the place of immortality. Then, Indra was very happy in his heart, thinking: 'I have completed all that should be done. I have placed those who are immersed in negligence in the trap of caution.' He was also very happy thinking: 'I should tell them the profound Dharma that I have heard from other teachers. 'The way to open the gate of the city of liberation is to remember breathing in and out, which I have heard transmitted from the previous gods. I have also heard it from the Blessed One, and I should tell those gods as I have heard it. Combined with the teachings of the Four Noble Truths, dividing each Noble Truth into four ways to tell, this will bring great benefit to those gods.' Teaching the Dharma in any way that is convenient can bring great benefit, and can always keep the minds of sentient beings in samsara in the right Dharma. Here, the fifteen things have been explained. Now, for those gods, the sixteen ways of remembering breathing in and out will be explained in terms of order, correspondence, combination, classification of the Noble Truths, self-nature, and the self-nature of the cause.

These will be explained. What is the order then? Here, the yogi attaches the mind like a monkey to a part of his own body. In order to negate the discriminating consciousness, what mainly binds it? That is with one-pointed mind. Then, gradually practice the characteristics of the body, that is, abide contemplating the body on the body that is afflicted, unafflicted, and unspecified. Abide contemplating feelings on feelings of pleasure, pain, and neither pain nor pleasure. Abide contemplating phenomena on phenomena that are virtuous, non-virtuous, and unspecified, thus contemplating the self-characteristics of those four mindfulnesses. Thus, that yogi enters what is called the knowable of Dharma, peaceful and comprehending, contemplating the self-characteristics of all formations, and contemplating the characteristics of the four noble truths, namely the four mindfulnesses. Mindfulness is all of these, that is, like this, impermanence of arising and ceasing from moment to moment, and emptiness of being separated from the constant and independent power, and selflessness of being separated from independence, and suffering is the destruction of afflictions going to the other shore, thus contemplating those four mindfulnesses. Seeing the self-characteristics of the four noble truths as they are, the wisdom of Dharma called warmth arises, just as when fire arises, smoke comes first and then fire comes later, and just as when rubbing wood, warmth comes first and then fire arises later, thus, the sign of warmth arises as an antidote to all afflictions and ignorance. In the discipline of the noble Dharma, understanding the four noble truths by contemplating them in sixteen aspects, is merely joy and faith. How does the Dharma of warmth arise? How does one mainly analyze the four noble truths? That is, like this, the noble truth of suffering is these, impermanent because of cause and condition, painful because of harm, empty because of being separated from a person, and not independent.
