If given, then through that karma, one can see the depths of the Asura realm, where the lord of the Asuras is consuming nectar tainted with impurities. Then, O Bhikshu, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, one contemplates the fourth place. Through the wisdom gained from hearing, he sees the fourth abode of the Asuras belonging to the animal realm, called Immovable, which is twenty-one thousand yojanas in extent. In the middle of that, there is a city called Beautiful, which is eight thousand yojanas. That place is also thirty thousand yojanas in extent. In that city dwells the ruler of the Asuras, called Exceedingly Joyful. The names of those Asuras who dwell in that place are called All Joyful, and they are powerful. That king is also exceedingly powerful compared to those Asuras, exceedingly happy, exceedingly stable, endowed with power, endowed with magical abilities, without fear anywhere, not even counting the world with power, exceedingly fat through extra diligence, all of whom dwell in the depths beneath the earth. There is nothing lower than that, it dwells on top of the jewel ground. It is always exceedingly happy, always joyful and delighted, always exceedingly open-minded in various ways, and attached to various kinds of territorial politics, they dwell very happily in the fourth abode, the profound city. That city is also adorned everywhere with lotus ponds, water lilies, riverbanks, growing lands, and walls, decorated with houses of seven jewels, without rivals, without mutually discordant friends, without mutual strife, without the fear of rivals, like a second sky. Just as the sky is adorned with various kinds of stars, planets, and constellations, so too is that city adorned and beautified with various kinds of jewels. Here are the verses: All actions depend on the mind, and the results are seen to depend on the mind. Just as the mind is diverse, so too are the results seen. This following the three realms of existence, all is painted diversely by the mind. What is not controlled by the mind? That

The place of mind is completely non-existent. Mind is the basis and cause of both liberation and bondage. Good deeds liberate beings, while bad deeds quickly bind them. Thus, sentient beings, controlled by their minds, wander in the three realms of existence. Beings deluded by craving go forth controlled by their minds. Like a blind person not seeing a good path, they cannot attain nirvana. Just as those sentient beings cultivate the right path, so too, the place that is in accordance with various causes appears in various ways. This place is located outside that city, adorned with trees, nearby gardens, pavilions, towns, lotus ponds, various rivers, and hundreds of kinds of birds. In its fourth place, where the Asuras reside, they are called "All Joyful," stable, without worry, adorned with bodies of excellent appearance and ornaments. Each other They do not disturb each other's minds even slightly, are always joyful in their hearts, full of joy, and dwell surrounded by groups of women adorned with various appearances and ornaments, making hundreds or thousands rejoice, play, and enjoy themselves. That fourth place is also always adorned by women holding jewels. The Asuras, All Joyful, always listen very attentively to the commands of the Asura Lord, Exceedingly Joyful, their minds are very open, and the nature of listening to his commands is always seen as being under his control. Then, again, the monk who knows the ripening of karmic fruits contemplates the ripening of the karma of the Asura Lord, Exceedingly Joyful, thinking, "By what karma was he born here?" He investigates with the wisdom arising from hearing, "Thus, in the past, someone who clung to wrong views, did not recognize the fruits of karma, and turned away from the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, at one time, a monk with discipline and diligence, entered the path, earnestly requested alms, and gave them. After giving, (he thought) the fruit of my giving is meaningless, and from this

Nor has it become my Dharma. Having completely renounced evilly. To this people, this alms that I have given is merely giving alms to those with salty gates. And it is also said that the field is uniquely endowed with merit, and because of the face of others, giving the decayed thing like thorns, that person, after death, falls into evil destinies and is born among animals. In places where the land is extremely rich, adorned with jewels, and immovable, the field is extremely endowed with merit, and the mind does not grasp things, with the maturation of such karma, making the Asuras all rejoice, those masters called 'extremely joyful', like competing with each other, are endowed with all happiness, I have seen. The Noble Dharma of Mindfulness, the twenty-third chapter. Then again, the monk, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, contemplates the ripening of the karma of those called the Asuras all rejoice. Thinking, by what ripening of karma will the Asuras all rejoice in the place of the Asuras be born? He investigates with the knowledge arising from hearing, that whoever is attached to the taste of desire, dwells in the garden where sentient beings are numerous, like this, those sentient beings dwelling in those gardens, no one has gathered, no one has arranged freely, thinking I should gather these gardens, for the sake of compassion for sentient beings, and because I desire honey for my livelihood, if he gathers, that person, after death, will be born among the Asuras. Because of the cause of the maturation of protecting sentient beings for his livelihood, he will be born among the all-rejoicing, I have seen. Then again, the monk, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, contemplates the battle between the gods and the Asuras. He investigates with the knowledge arising from hearing, like this, the lord of the Nagas dwells in a place with enjoyment, possessing Dharma and following Dharma, having seven heads, like this: the son of the Naga king Wealth Increase, the Naga king Settler, the Naga king Virtuous, the Naga king Rohina, the Naga king Cloud Garland, the Naga king Abyss, the Naga king All.
