And also seeing those who delight in the earth, who always delight in knowledge, who delight in ascetics and Brahmins, and who become long-lived. Then again, a monk, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, contemplates the abode of the gods of the Thirty-Three. With the knowledge born of hearing, he sees how the abode of the gods of the Thirty-Three, called the wandering like the abode of the moon, exists. Thinking, "Which sentient beings will be born there?" he investigates with the knowledge born of hearing, those who practice the ultimate of virtuous deeds, free from mental defilements, with extremely cultivated minds, and extremely cultivated intentions, who have flawlessly created the image of the Buddha. Similarly, for the image of the Blessed One made of gold, silver, copper, or iron, with a mind of faith, using a pen or making it extremely clear, making it beautiful, and making the image free from defilements and supremely beautiful, if the patron is exceedingly delighted and repeatedly thinks about it in his mind, then, with the good qualities of the field of mind, and the cause of mind, the cultivated mind, practicing virtue, he will become endowed with happiness. Furthermore, one should abandon killing and taking what is not given. For a monk, one should not even think of killing or harming living beings in his mind, and if others do so, one should not rejoice in it, but rather prevent it. He who is devoted to the path of virtue, that noble person who benefits himself and others, will experience happiness. How many ways are there to abandon killing? Regarding this, thinking with great reverence, one should not even think of killing in one's mind, nor allow others to kill. Those who perform well-done deeds, even those beings born from warmth and moisture, those who are born under the bedding and eat it, one should not seize and kill them. One should not kill earthworms, ants, and snails. These are the ways of abandoning killing. What is not taking what is not given like? Furthermore, a noble person is not satisfied with the perfection of virtuous deeds, therefore, in all circumstances, he does not take what is not given, therefore he has abandoned taking what is not given. How many ways are there? If threatened by cold or warmth

Even when faced with poverty, one does not sustain oneself by relying on the dry tree, clod of earth, or mere shade of an umbrella that is possessed by others. One does not deprive those who live by shade of their shade. Having forcibly driven away guests who rest and sit in the shade of trees, one does not cool oneself in those shades, causing them to suffer from thirst and hunger, and one completely abandons and does not engage in such acts of taking what is not given. One also prevents others from taking what is not given. Even the slightest act of taking what is not given is abandoned, and the act of killing is also abandoned. Then, after separating from the body and dying, one will be reborn in a happy realm, among the gods of the Thirty-Three Heavens, among the gods who wander like the moon in the heavens. Having been born there, one utilizes the results of well-performed actions. Utilizing them in accordance with causes and conditions, the results will arise in accordance with them. For example, just as the moon on the tenth night of the full moon has as much light as it has, so much light arises from all the bodies of the gods, being exceedingly pure. The light of that god makes the heavenly realms and directions a hundred times brighter. That light is neither hot nor cold, and it is pleasing to the eyes of all the gods. Those gods are also superior to the gods born in other places because of their light. By the power of their virtuous deeds, the light of that god shines forth, suppressing all jewels and the light of jewels for ten cubits in all directions. Then, that god, surrounded by many assemblies of gods, emitting various sounds of cymbals and music, and singing songs, proceeds to the garden called the Five Joys Grove. In that grove, surpassing all the gods of the Thirty-Three Heavens, there are five great joys: the splendor and fruits of the trees, the vast wisdom of the birds, the water of the lotus ponds and the abundance of waterfalls, and the fragrant winds in the sky, like the sounds of bells and chimes constantly rising. Then, that god, surrounded by assemblies of gods, proceeds to that grove called the Garden of Five Joys.
