Lapo commanded thus: 'Gather sheep, cattle, donkeys, and so on.' If one does not take by force, fearing the punishment of withholding, then after death, that person will be reborn in the happy realm of higher realms, in the Joyful Grove among the gods of the Thirty-Three. Transformation also occurs through other actions. For example, when teaching the Dharma, to make the listeners happy, auspicious days, places, and times are chosen, and they are also made happy. If they are very happy and listen to the Dharma with one-pointed mind, then the teacher who teaches the sacred Dharma will also be reborn in the happy realm of higher realms, in the Joyful Grove, after death. Among all the acts of generosity, this is the most supreme act of generosity, namely, the giving of the Dharma. By this cause, one will also be reborn in the happy realm of higher realms, in the Joyful Grove among the gods of the Thirty-Three. Having been born there, they will experience the unparalleled and immeasurable complete happiness of the gods. For example, the orientation of that grove is like this: it is three thousand yojanas in extent and adorned with trees of the seven precious substances. There, the gods are always happy and do not go anywhere else. Therefore, due to the qualities born together, it is called the Joyful Grove. There, all the trees fulfill the desires of the gods; whatever the gods think of in their minds, those things will appear from the trees. For example, if the gods think of having a house, then as soon as that god thinks in this way, immediately, it will appear from the top of that tree's branches. The palace of that tree is made of the seven precious substances, beautifully decorated, and one will see a palace with a thousand pillars. Each pillar of that palace, in every direction, is made of lapis lazuli, some are made of gold, some are made of crystal, some are made of red pearl, and some are made of conch shell. Then, seeing that the best house is on the top of the tree, he thinks: 'Now I will enter this house from the smooth and uneven road.'

As soon as he thought of what to do, he could immediately see the path to that tree and enter it. Having entered from that path, he thought: Now, if there were a lotus pond in my house, inside the house, that would be good. As soon as he had this thought, a lotus pond made of seven precious jewels appeared, adorned with swans, mandarin ducks, and various kinds of water birds, making it very beautiful. Then that god thought again: If I could have five kinds of musical instruments and songs. As soon as he had this thought, a gentle breeze would immediately rise, and as long as the wind touched anything, it would make a sound, and that sound would be like the sound of five kinds of musical instruments. That god thought again: Now, in the house inside the tree, if food and drink could flow like rivers. As soon as he had this thought, the branches of the tree drooped down, flowing out food and drink as much as rivers, and the color, smell, taste, and touch were all perfect. He thought again: Now I will eat nectar. As soon as he had this thought, nectar with heavenly taste, fragrance, and color immediately appeared, and he ate that nectar. He was very satisfied, and then he played and enjoyed himself with those goddesses. In this way, in the joyful grove, the gods went to the trees and enjoyed happiness. If they wanted to come down from that best of trees again, they would come down to the ground and walk on the ground. As they walked, lotuses with lapis lazuli stems, golden petals, suitable for the heavens, soft and elastic, beautiful in every way, and very fragrant would appear. The gods walked on those lotuses, and when the gods sang with the sound of five kinds of musical instruments, the gods thus experienced the joy of walking on the lotuses. They fulfilled hundreds of thousands of different thoughts, experienced happiness, and experienced the five objects with the five senses. All the senses were unable to be satisfied with their own objects.
