It is frivolous talk. What is false speech? It is like this: deceiving oneself and also deceiving others. Speaking falsely is deceiving oneself and others. It also has five causes: namely, desire, hatred, fear, gain, and the complete collection of false teachings. What is false speech like? For example, whether one is in the court of a king, or in the midst of a householder's retinue, or among relatives, when speaking to friends and non-friends, for the sake of friends, one speaks falsely out of desire; for the sake of non-friends, one also speaks falsely out of hatred. One also speaks falsely for the sake of gain; those who are attached to wealth speak falsely. One also speaks falsely by completely gathering the words of false teachings; for example, Brahmins say that speaking falsely for the sake of merit, for the sake of plundering wealth, for the sake of not harming one's own life, and for the sake of taking a wife is not a sin. This is false speech that completely gathers the words of false teachings. The words of those who are foolish and have perverse views will also turn sentient beings into unbearable hells. The seeds that cause sentient beings to fall into hell are like this: because of speaking falsely, one should not speak even a little falsehood for the sake of one's own life or for the sake of another's life; this is the best. One also speaks falsely out of fear; if I do not speak this falsehood, I will suffer great and meaningless harm to my life. Because one fears these things, one speaks falsely for the sake of these things. These five causes cause children to speak falsely, and ignorance is present in all things. Here are verses: Disdaining the next world, transgressing one law, the body that speaks falsely, there is no evil that it does not do. As soon as one is born into a human body, from the mouth comes words like an axe, speaking evil words, that will cut oneself. Speak the truth and do not quarrel, even if begged, give even a little. Possessing these three qualities, one goes to the presence of the gods.

Therefore, under any cause and condition, one should not lie, nor should one rejoice in others lying. One should not engage in meaningless conversations with liars, nor should one reside or stay with them. Otherwise, others will think that this person is also an open liar. In this way, associating with those who clearly like impure actions, others will also think of impure actions. Therefore, one should not associate with evil friends. For example, associating with evil friends is the bondage of samsara, the place of sentient beings in hells, pretas, and animal realms. While associating with virtuous friends is the supreme liberation. These are brief explanations of lying. Furthermore, what is divisive speech like? How many kinds are there? The yogi who abides in the inner Dharma, following the Dharma, sees with the wisdom arising from hearing or with the divine eye. Divisive speech is the utterance of words with the intention of dividing harmony and prosperity. It has two kinds: combining with others and not combining with others. For example, letting enemies or other small enemies say, "You go and do the divisive combination of two people," or wanting to carry out the division oneself. Furthermore, what is harsh speech like? How many kinds are there? The yogi who abides in the inner Dharma, following the Dharma, sees with the wisdom arising from hearing or with the divine eye. Harsh speech is the utterance of words that harm oneself and others, are the cause of anger, are unpleasant, ugly, disliked, and discordant to hear, accompanied by desire, hatred, and delusion, and used together with all ordinary people. This is called harsh speech, and it has many kinds, many aims, many causes, many arising of mind, many ripenings, many destructions of going to good destinies, making all beings unhappy, being the cause of the world's increase, becoming harmonious, causing destruction, becoming a place of distrust, making the mind

Not being harsh, the defilement of harsh language like a tongue turned into poison, is completely abandoned by practicing like Brahma. Here are the verses: With steadfastness, harsh speech should be abandoned, Always speak truthful words. A person who rejoices in sweet words, Dwells near Nirvana. Always speak peaceful words, Completely abandon defiled words. Overwhelmed by the defilement of words, That person goes to hell. Overwhelmed by the defilement of words, Whoever it is, they have no happiness. Just as lions and snakes are not noble, They have no heaven. Those who do not speak harsh words, Those who have completely abandoned deceit, They all generate joy, And bring happiness and breath. That person in this world, Rejoices and goes to the heaven beyond. Such people, It is fitting for the wise to pay homage to them. True words are always peaceful, Without deceit and with an upright mind, Free from harming others, That is the joyful banner of Dharma. Like the sound of clapping hands, A person becomes small. Those who obtain it but do not know the Dharma, People are deceived by the foolish. Those who do not become miserable, Those who do not desire happiness, They commit sinful deeds, And are completely deceived by the cause of craving. Wherever one goes, the follower of karma, Wealth, sons, wives, And friends, relatives, in-laws, Cannot go there together. Well done and poorly done, Those follow where one goes. Birds dwell in the sky, Its shadow goes along. Just as those with little provisions, Suffer on the road, Similarly, those who have not done good deeds, Sentient beings go to bad destinies. Just as those with ample provisions, Go comfortably on the road, Similarly, those who have done good deeds, Sentient beings go to happy destinies. People who have lived in foreign lands for a long time, Return happily, Relatives, loved ones, and friends, Come here and rejoice. Similarly, a person who has done merit, Passes away from this world, Merit itself manifests joy, Like loved ones arriving. Therefore, for the next life, One should perform and accumulate merit. Merit in the next world, Is the
