There, these harms will occur, such as: four hundred and four diseases will arise, namely one hundred and one caused by wind, one hundred and one caused by bile, one hundred and one caused by phlegm, and one hundred and one caused by a combination, which are in accordance with the hell beings. Any single disease that can cause all the people of Jambudvipa, Uttarakuru, Aparagodaniya, and Purvavideha to die in a single day, such forms of disease will befall those hell beings. Other harms will occur again and again, such as: worms will arise in the bodies of the hell beings themselves, and they will bore and bore and drink into the skin, blood, flesh, fat, bones, and marrow. Thus, when they are helpless, threatened by the Yama's messengers, and utter cries, various kinds of fire harms will occur, and as long as their sinful deeds have not been destroyed, abandoned, and exhausted, the fire will burn, boil, and blaze intensely. Those beings will be liberated from that hell, and if they are not born as pretas and animals due to the karma of having to experience retribution elsewhere, but are born as humans with the same fortune as people, then they will suffer and be impoverished due to the cause of trading in alcohol. Then, again, the monk, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, observes the wheel of the crying hell called, and sees the hell called the iron burning fire pillar. He wonders, 'Due to what will beings be born there?' He observes that whoever habitually and cultivates killing, taking what is not given, and engaging in sexual misconduct, and does so extensively, will be born in the hell called the iron burning fire pillar, just as before. Whoever lures lions, tigers, leopards, bears, and shangshang birds with alcohol, incapacitates them, and then captures and kills them, will be born there. There, these harms will occur, such as: the iron fire pillar blazes intensely.

Those arrive. The pestle-trees made by karma crush and kill all the limbs and details like grains of sand; in this way, all the limbs and details are crushed. The feeling causes the wretched ones to cry out in agony, to wail and run to and fro. As they run, they are burned everywhere by the fiercely blazing pestle-trees. As long as their sinful deeds done and accumulated have not been destroyed, abandoned, and exhausted, those sentient beings afflicted by feeling are seized by the servants of Yama, who cut off all their limbs and details with razors and split them open. Afterward, those sentient beings will be liberated from that hell, and even if they are liberated, if by the karma of having to experience other times, they are not born as pretas and animals, but are born as humans with the same fate as humans, then in accordance with that karma, they will be born as arrogant ones. In accordance with that karma, they will become poor, and they will be born in evil places lacking doctors and medicine, and in evil places with grasslands, deserts, and frequent destruction by fire. The Ninth Chapter of the Holy Dharma Mindfulness Sutra. Then, a monk, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, contemplates the surroundings of the great crying hell. Through the wisdom arising from hearing, he sees what is called a rain of burning stones falling. There, thinking about which sentient beings will be born there, he observes that those who universally practice, cultivate, and increase killing, taking what is not given, and engaging in sexual misconduct will be born in the hell where burning stones fall like rain. For the sake of war, just as a great elephant kills many people in battle, thinking, "We should win from this," they give alcohol to the elephants. If they kill people, then due to the ripening of that karma, they will be born in the hell where burning stones fall like rain. There, these harms will occur, such as in that hell, a fiercely blazing fire-elephant born from karma will appear, seizing all life.

From the outside, he is seized by the minions of Yama. Having seized him, they put him into red-hot molten copper. Until his sinful deeds are destroyed, abandoned, and exhausted, he will be burned, cooked, and killed for millions of years. That being will escape from that hell. Even after escaping, if, because of the karma of having to experience other times again, he is not born as a preta or an animal, but is born as a human with the same fate as humans, then, due to the result that is in accordance with that karma, even if he prepares to kill an elephant, he will be killed by that elephant. He will be poor, ugly in appearance, his hands and feet will become like the feet of a donkey, and he will see that his body is always rough. Then again, that bhikshu, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, contemplates the retinue of the great hell of wailing. Through the knowledge arising from hearing, he sees the great hell of sentient beings called 'Deathless'.
