That which is not is the second case. To be experienced after birth, and to be experienced in this life as well, is the third case. That which is not experienced in this life, and is not experienced after birth, is the fourth case. What is the karma that is experienced in this life, but not experienced after birth? For example, if worldly people harm the king, being punished by execution is experienced in this life, but is not like being experienced after birth. That which transcends the world is that generosity is praised for it, that there is experience in this life, but does not go together with the world in the afterlife, is the first case. To be experienced after birth, but not experienced in this life, is like worldly people saying that entering a pit of fire will lead to obtaining higher realms. That which transcends the world is that having done good or evil in this life, obtaining the manifest sight of cause and effect elsewhere is the second case. To be experienced in this life, and also to be experienced after birth, is the third case. For example, worldly people experience in this life and also experience after birth. That which transcends the world is like the third case. That which is not experienced in this life, and is not experienced after birth, is like the vow of silence held by worldly people, for the vow of silence, generosity, and discipline are experienced in this life. That which transcends the world is the karma of the mind that is not indicated, for by that karma that is not indicated, the ripening of the fruit to be experienced in this life is not evident, and it is not experienced after birth, which is the fourth case. Thus, that monk, staying in one place, sees the many networks and various branches of the karma, fruits, and ripening of sentient beings, hell beings, gods, and humans, and thus abides, following the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma. Then, how does that monk know the ripening of the fruits of karma? The practitioner of yoga follows the Dharma in accordance with the Dharma.

Observing and abiding in this, one knows karma and the fruits of karma, both virtuous and non-virtuous. For example, these sentient beings engage in misconduct with their bodies, engage in misconduct with their speech, and engage in misconduct with their minds. They slander the noble ones and embrace wrong views. Due to those causes and those conditions, they fall into the lower realms, being born among hell beings, or in the realm of animals, or in the realm of the hungry ghosts. Furthermore, these sentient beings engage in good conduct with their bodies, engage in good conduct with their speech, and engage in good conduct with their minds. They do not slander the noble ones. Due to those causes and those conditions, upon separating from their bodies, they are born among the gods in the happy realms. That bhikshu who truly sees his own karma, dharma, and ripening, does not engage in conduct similar to that of sentient beings who are deluded by what they have heard from others and are under the control of Mara. He develops aversion to conduct that leads to nirvana, possesses virtue and conduct that leads to samsara, and from this samsara, he acts in such a way that he himself saves himself, as well as benefactors and donors, and also benefits other beings. That bhikshu who knows dharma, karma, and ripening, contemplates and examines the karma, dharma, and ripening of sentient beings in hell, among the hungry ghosts, among animals, among the gods, and among humans. For example, just as a jewel is extremely clear and bright, and when a thread is inserted into the hole of a vaidurya jewel, it appears yellow, madder-colored, or white, similarly, the thread of ripening that exists within the jewel of karma is seen by the bhikshu's wisdom born from hearing, or by his pure divine eye. Again, that bhikshu, with the wisdom born from hearing, sees karma, dharma, and ripening like a jewel. For example, a jewel that is white and extremely white, completely bright and without flaws, clear and able to withstand polishing, suitable for processing and completely round, praised by all people, possessing wealth and suitable for a king, possessing those qualities.
