Just as the appearance of change is merely seeing the appearance, and the arising of knowledge of it, like a reed and the node of a reed. Among them, the difference in the reed is that it is hard, and the reed is soft, smooth, hard, and not hard, from which the node of the reed arises. Similarly, invisible and unimpeded consciousness grasps onto what is visible and impeded. Third, just as the node of a reed arises, all different things arise from different things, so the arising of different from different is the first extreme. The second extreme is the arising of the same from the same, like knowing white cloth from white threads. The third extreme is the arising of the dissimilar from the dissimilar, like fire arising from friction wood, seeing that fire and wood are dissimilar. The fourth extreme is the arising of thick from thin, like the arising of thick from thin milk, just as thick yogurt arises from thin milk, different things, such as eye consciousness, etc., arise from the differences of causes and conditions, such as eye consciousness, etc. Here are the verses: For those who rejoice in realizing the Dharma, Dwelling in the perfection of all meditations, Knowing its characteristics, Will attain the supreme Nirvana. Always rejoicing in loving-kindness, Striving in the realm of Dharma practice, Knowing the characteristics of the body, He alone is the true Bhikshu. Whose wisdom properly contemplates, Is not defiled by desire and anger, Know that he is the Bhikshu, Otherwise, he will become another. Loving all beings and being peaceful, Completely abandoning all attachments, Completely liberated from all bonds, He is the true wise Bhikshu. Whose consciousness is like a tool, Is not defiled by objects, Like gold without impurities, The pure one is called a Bhikshu. Whose mind is not stained by joy and, Displeasure, Completely abandoning all faults, He is regarded as a treasure of merit. With pure precepts and without anger, Practicing Dharma, subduing the senses, Not despising beings and possessing wisdom, Such a one is a Bhikshu. Who always rejoices in the scriptures and the meaning of the scriptures, With consciousness and wisdom, Food
