我看见了被称为食风饿鬼是怎样的状态。心想是什么导致投生到那里的呢？他用从听闻而来的智慧进行观察，一个大腹便便、只想着吃喝的人，答应布施斋饭给一些苦行者、婆罗门、烦恼者和受苦者几天，发誓之后却撒谎，那些人在那天因饥渴而非常痛苦，只能待在凉风吹拂的地方。当这个谎言者离开身体，堕入恶趣，就会投生到食风饿鬼之中。投生到那里之后，他四处奔走，没有食物，没有希望，没有住所，无依无靠，被自己的心完全欺骗。在他的视线中，从远处能看到许多能恢复生机的食物等物、饮料、房屋和令人愉悦的园林，为了食物和饮料，他奔向那里。当他奔向那里时，因劳累而饥渴加倍，他张开嘴。当他张开嘴时，风进入其中。那风进入口中，稍微缓解了他的饥饿，但他仍然执着于不洁的身体。他的食物和饮料，就像饥渴的旱獭颠倒地看到的一样，只是空虚、空洞、没有精华、像火轮一样显现。正如他布施了没有意义的空洞布施一样，他所看到的也是空洞的。这里有一段偈颂： 因与果相符， 智者如是说。 因与果不符， 有情不得熟。 众多轮回转世， 因与缘紧密相连。 轮回中被束缚者， 有情无法解脱。 彻底解脱紧密束缚， 以及极其难忍之苦， 到达无有痛苦之处， 趋向寂静之极乐。 因此，当他趋近并享用与因相符的果报时，这个被心欺骗的人，直到他所造作和积累的罪恶之业各自完全体验，业力被摧毁、舍弃且未耗尽之前，都会一直受苦。

I saw what it is like to be a hungry ghost called a wind-eater. Wondering what causes one to be born there, he investigated with the wisdom that comes from hearing. A big-bellied person who only thinks of eating and drinking promises to give food to some ascetics, Brahmins, afflicted ones, and sufferers for a few days. After vowing, he lies, and those people are very tormented by hunger and thirst on that day, and can only stay where the cool wind blows. When that liar leaves his body and falls into a bad rebirth, he will be born among the wind-eating hungry ghosts. After being born there, he runs around, having no food, no hope, and no dwelling. Helpless and completely deceived by his own mind, he sees from afar many revitalizing substances such as food, drink, houses, and delightful gardens. For the sake of food and drink, he runs there. As he runs there, his hunger and thirst are doubled by exhaustion, and he opens his mouth. When he opens his mouth, the wind enters it. That wind enters his mouth, slightly relieving his hunger, but he still clings to the impure body. His food and drink, like a thirsty marmot seeing things upside down, appear only as empty, hollow, without essence, and like a wheel of fire. Just as he gave meaningless empty offerings, he sees only emptiness in return. Here is a verse: The fruit is in accordance with the cause, So say the wise. The fruit that is not in accordance with the cause, Will not ripen for sentient beings. Many lifetimes of rebirth, Are closely related to cause and condition. Those bound in samsara, Sentient beings cannot be liberated. Having completely untied the tight bonds, And the unbearable suffering, Going to where suffering does not exist, One will go to the supreme peace. Therefore, as he approaches and enjoys the fruit that is in accordance with the cause, this mind-deceived person will suffer until the sinful deeds he has done and accumulated are each fully experienced, and the karma is destroyed, abandoned, and not exhausted.

Until then, he will cling to the body that only eats air. After that, he will be liberated from the world of pretas. After liberation, if he is born as a human due to the karma he has created in the past that must be experienced in other lives, then due to this karma being in accordance with cause and effect, he will always be poor. He will knowingly lack wealth, food, drink, feasts, dwellings, and water, and will not give alms, nor will he be restrained. The mind deprived of food delights in hope, and also delights in hopelessness. He sees a manifestly weakened body living in extreme suffering. Here is a verse: Here, the habit of sin, brings suffering in all places. Incompatible with sentient beings, like the smell of impurity. That which destroys evil destinies for a long time, is the habit of virtue that brings joy. Even when the flowers wither, on the sesame seeds, the habit appears as usual. Then, that bhikshu who understands the ripening of karmic results, observes the world of pretas. Through the wisdom he has gained from hearing, he sees how in the realm of pretas, there exists a preta called the corpse-fire eater. He wondered what caused them to be born there, so he observed through the wisdom he gained from hearing. Those who have been appointed as witnesses, being stingy due to jealousy and miserliness, seize those innocent ones who should not be seized and bind them, causing them to suffer from hunger and thirst, and also being distressed by the suffering of being seized. They suffer greatly, without hope, tormented by hunger and thirst, and can only eat ashes. When their karma ripens and they die from that basis, those who have been appointed as witnesses, due to the power of that sinful karma, separate from the body, fall into evil destinies, and are born among the corpse-fire eating pretas. Due to unpleasant karma, now feeling happy, but ripening to bring suffering, unpleasant, unlovable, like being mixed with black poison, he always eats the corpse-fire of the cemetery, but that corpse-fire cannot satisfy him. That corpse-fire food slightly pacifies the extremely hot fire in the body, just as water extinguishes fire. Therefore, be content with things like black poison, and be very careful.
