I recite the bitterness. There, as long as his sinful deeds have not been destroyed, abandoned, and exhausted, he will suffer and experience it firsthand. Exhausted from that, liberated from that, if he is born as a human due to karma that allows people and individuals to fully experience, then in accordance with that karma and cause, he will become poor and suffer from diseases, and will see being burned in a pit burned by fire. Then, the monk again observes the ripening of the fruits of karma, he observes the world of pretas. He sees through the knowledge gained from hearing that those who completely rely on and cultivate stinginess, thereby creating a great deal of the basis of karma and the ultimate of karma, after separating from the body, fall into evil destinies, and are reborn in the unclean streets of the preta world. He wonders, from those pretas, who will be reborn? He observes through the knowledge gained from hearing. Those who, when making offerings to the Sangha, are diminished by jealousy and stinginess, enjoy delicious foods themselves, but give inferior food to those who possess pure conduct and purity, they will be reborn in the unclean streets, becoming the dwelling place of pretas. After being born there, the body is not visible during the day, and only visible at night. Those, whether in villages, cities, rocky mountains, grazing lands, crow roosts, or damp places, all who dwell in places of feces and urine, as well as lying together, garbage, filthy places, or places where feces are piled up, are covered with worms, emitting an extremely terrible stench, all beings vomit as soon as they see it, worms live for a long time, rotten places, those who enjoy delicious food of the Sangha will be reborn as pretas. Extremely suffering beings, after being born there, due to the karma, the Yama's messengers holding burning swords, they cannot obtain unclean food at any time. Even if they can obtain it once every half month, or once a month, they cannot be satisfied, and even if they eat it, they will vomit, their bodies are tormented by hunger and thirst.

Thus, they utter cries and wails, run to and fro, and lament. From the impurity of the seed, it becomes utterly unbearable. The fruit of sinful actions is seen to resemble the cause. Beings led by sin are like being led backward by saliva. A fish might escape from saliva, but sin cannot escape from sin. The rope of sin is unbearable, and when suddenly drawn, it leads to the realm of pretas (hungry ghosts), obscured by great hunger and thirst. Just as the fire arising from hunger and thirst becomes unbearable torment, fire, weapons, and poisons do not cause such unbearable torment. Where there is little happiness, there is no instant, no moment, no short while, no night. I am always obscured by suffering. By relying on the cause of suffering, one obtains suffering from suffering. Liberation from suffering will bring me happiness. Wherever I run, the source of the stream and water are not visible. The ponds have also dried up, and the rivers have disappeared. I am always desiring water, and when I run all over the earth, even with rocks and dense forests, those rivers have dried up. My body is burned, tormented by the fire of hunger and thirst. Moreover, there is no refuge, and unbearable afflictions come. Thus, as long as that preta, deceived by the fruit of his own actions, has not destroyed, abandoned, and exhausted the sinful actions he has done and accumulated, he will continue to utter cries and lamentations. Afterward, he will be liberated from that world of pretas. Even after liberation, if he is born as a human due to karma that needs to be experienced in other lifetimes, in accordance with that karma and its cause, he will become a woman or a prostitute. If he becomes a man, he will be a city garbage cleaner, or he will enter into the guise of a woman and make a living from that. Then again, the monk, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, thinking about which other preta will be born in the realm of pretas, contemplates the world of pretas. Through the wisdom arising from hearing, he knows that in the land of pretas
