, and the mind will be delighted. Then, upon hearing this, the gods of the Four Great Kings from among the Four Great Kings will be exceedingly delighted. Furthermore, son of good family, he regards even the slightest fault as terrifying, and is patient and disciplined, with his mind well-controlled. He does not enjoy commotion, is not easily angered, relies closely on one lineage after another, does not associate with evil friends, and does not look at worldly discriminations. He does not desire much delicious food and does not engage in bad company. He does not take great pleasure in worldly conduct and never adopts the attitude of seeing things as friendly. He does not make worldly conduct his discipline, but is always diligent in mindfulness. He lives on peaceful food and is always diligent in cutting the bonds of Mara. He is always diligent in right view and wishes that the noble being would benefit all the world. Here are the verses: He who does not harm beings, Always has loving-kindness and patience, Like a father to all beings, The world follows him. Abandoning taking what is not given, Always the wise one is controlled, The ends of bodily actions are virtuous, He has crossed over existence. He does not look with his eyes At a woman painted in a picture, He has destroyed worldly desires, Such a one is called liberated. He treats bravery, clods, and gold alike, Is free from sorrow and abides in equanimity, Unmixed with defilements and desires, He has obtained the boundless gate. For whom meaning and non-meaning are equal, Likewise, gain and no gain, Happiness and suffering are equal in mind, That one is called a monk. He has abandoned both friends and non-friends, His mind is equal and his senses are controlled, Whoever is not defiled by objects, That one should be known as a Brahmin. Objects are like poison to a person, Hatred is a hero free from defilements, What the Fully Awakened One has taught, His nirvana is not far off. Knowing the very nature of arising and ceasing, Right view without attachment, His mind unwavering like a snow mountain, That one is liberated from samsara. Sandalwood and sword are equal, Food, whether delicious or not, is equal, Fine silk and coarse cloth are equal, He is not harmed by craving. Gain and respect

Not delighting, content with just a grass mat, seeing gain and honor as like fire. Whoever sees this, sees the truth. Whoever is not swayed by worldly things, does not fall into the river of craving, knows their own karmic results, that is the bhikkhu spoken of by the Buddha. Whoever does not desire the past, is not pleased with the future, the yogi abides in the present, the one who is not pleased has no wisdom. Whose wisdom can turn back, will always abide in the Dharma. Equally abiding in the white Dharma, that one will not fall into samsara. Whoever does not stir up trouble in the mind, whose knowledge is like fire. For whom the world is like a servant, for that one there is no suffering. Whoever controls the senses, and is not controlled by the senses, whoever does not steal forms etc., and is without afflictions, is like a sage. Whoever's thoughts are virtuous, rejoices upon seeing the patient, whose mind is exceedingly joyful, that person is like the moon, a sage. Whoever delights in solitude, is not attached to excellent mansions, delights in the trees of the plains, a beggar is called a bhikkhu. The hero, peaceful, gentle, and wise, knows the truth of happiness and suffering, that one goes to the supreme place, and wherever they go, they are not afflicted. Possessing loving-kindness and upright wisdom, always going to the other shore of meditation, not associating with ordinary people, that yogi possesses truthful words. By abandoning wrong views, those are attained. Furthermore, by abandoning wrong views, with right view as the forerunner, by abandoning conceptual thoughts, gradually abiding in uncontaminated meditation, how will the earth gods, the gods who dwell in space, the yakshas, and the four great kings rejoice? The practitioner of yoga, abiding in the inner Dharma, following the Dharma, with knowledge arising from hearing, or seeing with the divine eye, the four great kings will proclaim to the gods of the four great kings and to the lord of the gods, Indra: 'In this Jambudvipa, from such and such a lineage, in such and such a village, such and such a town, there is a son of the lineage named so-and-so, who has shaved his hair and beard, wears saffron robes, and with faith from home'
