Deceiving the world, as long as the sinful deeds associated with pretas are not destroyed, abandoned, and exhausted, they will continue to deceive the world in that way, and will be born into the world of pretas. Afterwards, they will be liberated from the world of pretas, and even after liberation, due to the causes corresponding to that karma, they will wander around in samsara. If they are again among hundreds of people, like a turtle inserting its head into the hole of a yoke, and are born as humans with a shared destiny with people, they will become performers of various dances, and will likewise engage in various other behaviors. They will sustain their livelihood by engaging in various occupations, giving their wives to others, and will manage to sustain their lives with great difficulty. Then, the monk, knowing the ripening of the fruits of karma, contemplates the world of pretas. With the wisdom arising from hearing, he sees how the pretas dwell in a place called the space between the islands of the preta ocean. Thinking about who among them will be born there, he investigates with the wisdom arising from hearing. Whoever enters a monastery and becomes fearful, with a pale face, weakened by illness, without protectors or friends, and those who weaken other beings with jealousy and stinginess, and who develop attachment and craving for unreasonable things, who use inferior goods to imitate superior goods, and deceive others with false prices. That person who is weakened by stinginess, at the time of death, will be in places without oceans, near many monasteries, trees, lotuses, rivers, gardens, and forests, where it is a hundred times colder when it is cold, and a hundred times hotter when it is hot, their bodies tormented by hunger and thirst, or they will become pretas who live on dew drops. They will not even be able to drink the water of the ocean, and due to the evil deeds they have done, the ocean will also completely dry up, and even the mountains, forests, and oceans will be seen burning. He is without hope, harmed from all sides, his body tormented by hunger and thirst, crying and lamenting, running from place to place, uttering cries, uttering laments.

The mind deceived by his own karma is covered like darkness by hair, and all the limbs of the body are connected by a network of tendons, with the two hands separated and stretched out. He cries out, seeking refuge and relatives everywhere, but there is no one to become his protector. Thus, as long as he has not destroyed, abandoned, and exhausted that sinful karma, he will continue to live. Afterward, he will be liberated from the world of pretas. After liberation, if due to the cause that matches that karma, like a turtle entering a yoke hole, he shares the same fate as humans and is reborn as a human, then he will become like that, a person living between islands. In a place where there is little water on the island, he will be seen becoming one-legged or short in stature. Then, O Bhikshu, one who knows the ripening of the fruits of karma, observes the world of pretas. Through the knowledge gained from hearing, he sees how the punishment of the preta Yama exists in the world of pretas. He wonders, who will be born there because of this? Then he observes through the knowledge gained from hearing. Anyone who is ruined by jealousy and stinginess, violates the king's command, has strong emotions, has no compassion, abandons the Dharma, and is condemned by all the world, after separating from the body, falls into the evil path and becomes the punishment of the preta Yama in the land of pretas. In the human world, he will listen to the command of Yama because of the evil deeds he has done. Because of the evil deeds he has done, Yama's people will approach him, making him very frightened, and holding changed attire, changing the body, holding weapons in their hands, the body covered like darkness by hair, the lips and belly hanging down, the ears hanging down, making "ha, ha" sounds and brandishing weapons, thereby frightening that person. After those people see that person, they bind his hands with ropes and take him to the world of Yama, to the presence of Yama. Thus, he is taken from the world of gods and humans to the land of pretas, because of the evil deeds of the body, the evil deeds of speech, and the evil deeds of mind.
