and with defilements, and with contempt. They contemplate birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, and distress, but they do not cut them off. They also do not directly realize the Dharma of the noble ones. It is not the ultimate of Nirvana, it does not completely exhaust, it is not peaceful, it is not happy, and it does not lead to rebirth in the world of the gods, because they contemplate these three kinds of bodily transgression, verbal transgression, and mental transgression. Monks, other wandering non-Buddhists are merely satisfied with their own bodies and become arrogant, without examining faults and virtues. Thus, these three kinds of bodily transgression, verbal transgression, and mental transgression are greatly unbearable. There is not even a slight similarity between them and mine, just as there is not even a slight similarity between Nirvana and Samsara. Thus, there is no similarity between their three transgressions and mine. Monks, you should answer in this way: the arguments of the opponents are empty, and my path is happiness, Nirvana is peace, all conditioned phenomena are impermanent, and there is no happiness in all of Samsara. One should contemplate in this way those things that are permanent, stable, solid, and unchanging. Monks, the monk who sees the suchness of these three kinds of bodily transgression, verbal transgression, and mental transgression is great. The yogi monk who sees the suchness of the city of liberation should also contemplate. The yogi, thinking, 'How will this monk enter the twelfth ground?' observes that this monk does not diminish his effort and is still contemplating the suchness of the causes and effects of the evil deeds he has done. He sees the surrounding hells of the seven great hells of beings, called the Avici Hell, appearing a thousandfold. There, he wonders, 'By what karma will beings be born there?' Then, he investigates with the wisdom arising from hearing, namely, those who intentionally do not kill, and those who kill their fathers,

What will remain in the aftermath of the kalpa is that the karma of evil deeds committed at the end of the kalpa will ripen in Avīci, and that will ripen in the aftermath of the kalpa. When any harm is blocked, it will not happen again. Therefore, due to actions, it will ripen in the aftermath of the kalpa, and due to committing special karma, intense, harsh, and extremely hot harm will arise. If one commits an act of Avīci, it will not harm the mind, but it will become gentle, and thoughts will become gentle. Like this, if one commits an act of Avīci, if the mind is still harsh and the thoughts of the mind are harsh, then its suffering will become intense and harsh, but that kind of harm will not happen in that way. All ripening of the fruits of karma depends on the mind, It is under the control of the mind and is the accumulation of the mind. Sentient beings bound by the accumulation of the mind are bound, and liberation will occur through the purification of the mind. Just as the order is, the order of harm of Avīci also occurs in the same way, and its suffering also appears in a way that the body is large and youthful. For this, through the karma of the five heinous crimes, the body will achieve five measures. Through four karmas, it is four. Through three karmas, it is three. Through two karmas, it is two. Through one karma, the body will achieve one measure. Then, that monk again observed the surroundings of the great sentient being hell Avīci, and the surroundings of this great sentient being hell are called disheveled hair. Through the wisdom arising from hearing, he truly saw how the sixteen surroundings of the sentient being hell exist, and what surrounds that great sentient being hell. For example, it is called Crow's Mouth, as well as all underground, feeling endlessly long, making sounds like a fox, iron and jackal devouring, crow's abdomen, body shrinking, emitting terrifying sounds, like unopened flowers, piled up and pouring down, water sounds, riverbank burning, pain all entangled, craving for smells, iron felt, and walking destroyed by fire. These are the sixteen surroundings of the great sentient being hell Avīci. Then, that monk again observed death.
