I am thus pure. You are now in the three realms, dwelling in the mire of the five degenerations. The Tathagata and benefiting sentient beings are also not defiled by the mire, so they can inquire about such a doctrine. Son of the lineage, you should also listen. For example, all dharmas are truly without substance, but because there are letters, it is said that there is dharma. There are no letters in the dharma, and there is no dharma in the letters. In order to spread it universally, letters are taught. There is no Bodhi in the letters, and there are no letters in the Bodhi. But in the ultimate truth there are no letters, and in the conventional truth it is said that there are letters, so sentient beings cannot find the Buddha-nature and the unsurpassed Bodhi outside of letters. Son of the lineage, what you say is also true. The Tathagata has no exhaustion, no birth, does not cultivate, does not practice, is separated from cultivation and practice, does not enter the true dharma, and does not turn back or change from it. He was not born in the Tushita heaven in one lifetime. Having descended from there, he did not enter the mother's womb. Because the mind does not abide in all dharmas, he did not say that I have transcended birth, old age, sickness, and death. He did not take seven steps in each of the four directions. He did not say that I am the unsurpassed venerable one in the world. He did not play with young women in the excellent city. He did not learn worldly affairs such as writing and arithmetic. He did not compete in strength and wrestling. In order to liberate all sentient beings from suffering, showing the appearance of old age is to prevent attachment to the body. Showing the appearance of sickness is to prevent attachment to life. Showing the signs of death is to prevent desire, self-grasping, and grasping at what is mine. Showing the appearance of a monk is to make sentient beings not envy the bodies of Brahma and Indra, but to strive to practice the unsurpassed dharma that transcends the world. Coming out of the excellent city and departing is to show liberation from the prison of the three realms, and fruits that are not fruits. Looking back again is to show that there is no love or hatred. Therefore, adorning the body with the thirty-two marks, and the merit of sentient beings

This is about the actions related to fields. Shaving the head, abandoning all ornaments, and returning the horse Chandaka to the faithful elder, this shows separation from all afflictions. Shaving the beard shows non-attachment to all dharmas. Wearing the kasaya robe shows taming sentient beings. Asking the hermits Udraka and Arada for dharma and contemplating, shows destroying one's own pride. Practicing austerities for six years is to subdue the heretics. Accepting food is following the ways of the world. Accepting kusha grass shows contentment. Sitting on the spread grass shows destroying discouragement and laziness. All the gods and nagas praising, extolling, and making offerings shows being established in the fruit of merit. Taming the maras shows the power of bravery. Pointing the right hand to the earth shows the power of merit. The great earth shaking everywhere shows repaying kindness. Like this, because of meditating without characteristics, one attains the unsurpassed path of enlightenment. Like this, having directly known the characteristics of all dharmas, and showing the equality of all dharmas, therefore one is called Buddha. The wisdom of the Buddha is invincible, because it shows the meaning of attaining Buddhahood by merely teaching the Dharma, therefore one is called Tathagata. Because one clearly sees and knows the actions of the three times, the virtuous and non-virtuous dharmas, therefore one is called the Omniscient. Because one speaks truthfully and correctly, therefore one is called the teacher of gods and humans. Whoever learns and contemplates in this way is called a Bodhisattva. One who has wrong views about this should not be called a Bodhisattva, but should be called a deceiver of all Buddhas. Son of good family, all Buddhas do not arise, do not enter, do not come into existence, do not cease, but in order to turn all sentient beings away from suffering, it is said that they appear in the world, and it is said that the Buddhas pass into nirvana. Then, the Bodhisattva Akashagarbha said this to the Bhagavan: O Bhagavan, I also truly realize that the nature of all dharmas is emptiness, thus.
