And, by cultivating immeasurable merits, one will possess the mark of well-raised feet; by encouraging sentient beings to meditate on samadhi, one will possess the mark of being covered with water like a Nyagrodha tree. Son of lineage, if a Bodhisattva Mahasattva cultivates such immeasurable merits, he will be endowed with such thirty-two marks. After speaking thus, Bodhisattva Akashagarbha addressed the Bhagavan as follows: Bhagavan, when I examine all dharmas, nothing is established as a real entity or characteristic, it does not exist. When examining the Tathagata, if it is not the conduct of the Tathagata, then why extensively cultivate various conducts? When I examine the Three Jewels, the Four Noble Truths, the aggregates, the sources, the elements, the twelve links of dependent origination, and the laws of the Paramitas, all causes and effects, internal and external, are emptiness. There are no characteristics, no aspirations, no seeing of arising and appearing, nor seeing of ceasing and disappearing, like illusion, like emanation, like flame, like echo, like the moon in water, like turtle hair, like rabbit horns, like flowers in the sky, like the son of a barren woman, like wearing clothes of images, riding on an illusory elephant, existence is similar, non-existence is similar. Those existence and non-existence, existence is not, non-existence is not, permanence is not, annihilation is not, arising is not, ceasing is not, internal is not, future is not, seeing is not, knowing is not, like being similar to space, Bhagavan, why do I say that I have practiced those conducts? When I examine the Tathagata, I am not, sentient beings are not, life is not, nurturing is not, a person is not, a pudgala is not, a powerful one is not, one with power is not, the doer and so on are not, the eye is not, form is not, the field of activity of the nature of the eye and form is not, the ear is not, sound is not, the field of activity of the nature of the ear and sound is not, the nose is not, smell is not, the field of activity of the nature of the nose and smell is not.

Not the eye, not the ear, not the nose, not the tongue, not the sphere of activity of the nature of the tongue and taste, not the body, not the touch, not the sphere of activity of the nature of the body and touch, not the mind, not the dharma, not even the sphere of activity of the nature of mind and dharma. Not consciousness, not form, not even the sphere of activity of the nature of consciousness and form. Not form, not suffering, not even the sphere of activity of the nature of form and suffering. Not self, not belonging to self, not a goer, not one with form, not aggregates, not truth, not falsehood, not gathering, not scattering, not arising, not ceasing. Likewise, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are also not. Not going forth, not coming back, and there is no place of abiding. There is no mind, intellect, or consciousness, and there is no action of body, speech, or mind. Not one, and not different. Not past, not future, and not present. Not defiled, and not completely pure. Not self, not sentient being, and not life, person, individual, and so on. Not permanent, and not annihilated. There is no birth, and there is no cessation. There is no meditation, and there is no practice. There is no abandoning, and there is no taking. Having transcended the limits, for what purpose do you extensively accomplish the conduct for abiding for a long time? Thus he asked. Then, the Bhagavan praised the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Akashagarbha, saying: Well done! Well done! Son of good family, in the past, in immeasurable and countless times, you have done deeds for the Buddhas, created roots of virtue, and for a long time have understood the meaning of the unsurpassed Great Vehicle, and you have realized that all dharmas are emptiness. The Tathagata has transcended the limits of reality, and also knows to abide for a long time. Son of good family, it is like this: for example, a precious beryl gem, extremely clear and bright, even if placed in mud for a thousand years, its nature is completely pure, and when taken out, it is still the same as before. You are also like that, realizing the nature of dharmas.
