Then, how can one see the practice of virtue? If one cannot truly see that those who hold views of permanence and annihilation can be reborn in the realms of gods and humans, let alone hearer-disciples and solitary buddhas, how can one see the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment? Because there is no attachment to "mine" and "what belongs to me," I consider you, son of a noble family, who are not mixed with the vehicle of hearers and solitary buddhas, to be inexpressible. The bodhisattva Good Hand asked: Son of a noble family, should one not pay attention to going and coming? If one does not pay attention, how can a bodhisattva serve the objects of generosity with offerings and necessities? How can one serve parents, who are worthy of respect, and the sick? He replied: Son of a noble family, non-elaboration is like this: places, nearby places, excellent places, other places, places of respect, universal going, special going, nearby going, subsequent going, other going—all these words are non-elaboration. Why is that? Son of a noble family, because thoughts, discriminations, recollections, near-recollections, and excellent recollections lead to samsara. Cutting down is for accomplishment. Flowers are rebirth in the realms of gods and humans. Fruits are falling into the three lower realms, repeatedly experiencing death and rebirth, and being completely immersed in the eight momentary dharmas—these are faults. All the objects of these actions, various actions, nearby actions, and subsequent actions are accomplished in order to abandon the patience of the noble ones. He asked: Son of a noble family, does the practice of virtue for the sake of accomplishing the qualities of the Buddha disturb the patience of the noble ones? He replied: Son of a noble family, if one desires little of virtuous dharma and desires much of evil deeds, that is disturbing the patience of the noble ones. It is destruction. It is scattering. It is delusion. If one completely abandons virtuous dharma, that is called the thought of desire. If there is a thought of desire, that is disturbing the patience of universal action.
