Not one, two, or three, but hundreds of thousands of millions of kotis. Who would harbor hatred towards that Bodhi, the great king of remedies? If it bestows happiness even from afflictions, what need is there to mention paying homage to it? Then, the Venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, for example, whoever, in the presence of the king of mountains, Mount Sumeru, whether with a mind of faith, a mind of hatred, a mind of attachment, or a mind that obstructs the Dharma, if they approach it, all of that will turn into one color, like the color of gold. Blessed One, similarly, whoever, in the presence of a Bodhisattva, whether with a mind of faith, a mind of hatred, a mind of attachment, or a mind that obstructs the Dharma, if they approach him, all of that will turn into one color, like the color of the mind of omniscience itself. Blessed One, from today onwards, I will regard Bodhisattvas as being like Mount Sumeru. Blessed One, for example, the appearance of medicine looks good, and any sentient being, afflicted by various kinds of diseases, if they see that medicine, all those diseases will be completely pacified. Blessed One, similarly, whoever, whether with a mind of faith, a mind of hatred, or a mind of attachment, if they see a Bodhisattva, the diseases of desire, hatred, and ignorance of all of them will be completely pacified. Then, the Blessed One gave the Venerable Ananda the word "Well said," and said: Ananda, yes, Ananda, it is as you have said. Then, the Venerable Mahakashyapa said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, it is wonderful! Sugata, it is extremely wonderful! Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, although abiding in peaceful samadhi, still come again to the desire realm for the sake of compassion for sentient beings. Abiding in emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness, and not touching the Dharmas of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, they also descend upon the mind of omniscience. Blessed One, Bodhisattva

That Bodhisattva Mahasattva abides in inconceivable skillful means, that is, like this: For all the forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects that can be clung to, he uses them, but he does not cling to them. Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas, having arisen, ask a small question, "Blessed One, I dare to speak." "Sugata, I dare to speak." The Buddha said, "Odsrung, you may dare to speak." Blessed One, it is like this: For example, there is a solitary monastery, and that solitary monastery is built of bricks and reaches to the top of existence. That monastery has only one gate. In that solitary monastery, there are hundreds of thousands of beings. Not far from that solitary monastery, there is a city, full of wealth, happiness, prosperity, and human beings. Those who are in that city do not age or die. The remains of that great city are about a cubit high. There are hundreds of thousands of cliffs to the left and right. In the middle of that solitary monastery, a wise, peaceful, subdued, seeking benefit, seeking help, seeking wealth and happiness being is born, and he says to the beings in that solitary monastery: "O beings, not far from this solitary monastery, there is a city, and whoever goes there will not age or die. O beings, come, let us go to that great city. I will guide you all completely." He proclaims that sound, and speaks with melody. Those who are devoted to the inferior and have the thought of arising say, "We will also go to that teaching and that place, but this place is not superior to that place, and may those qualities that are in that city also arise here." Those who are devoted to the great say, "We will also go, and as you are, so are we." Those who have little merit do not believe when they hear that sound. Then, that wise person comes out of that solitary monastery and sees that path. He sees that the remains are about a cubit high and goes.

On the right side of the road, there are cliffs of a hundred thousand cubits, and on the left side, there are also cliffs of a hundred thousand cubits. On the left and right of that road, there are supports built with it. Four monks cross that path, not looking to the right, nor looking to the left. Even if enemies make sounds from behind and show terror, they do not look back, but embark on the path. The further they go, the more they see the great city, and all its fears are also non-existent. Having arrived at that great city, they also work for the benefit of countless beings. Bhagavan, the so-called "wilderness monastery" should be regarded as the wilderness monastery of samsara. The so-called "building reaching the peak of samsara" should be regarded as ignorance, craving, and existence. The so-called "hundreds of thousands of creatures are in that wilderness monastery" should be regarded as all individual beings like children. The so-called "one gate" should be regarded as the path to the one vehicle. The so-called "wise person" should be regarded as a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. For those who have the thought of generating faith in inferior beings and who want to seek the virtues of the city, they should be regarded as Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. Others say, "We also go, we are like you." They should be regarded as Bodhisattvas. The so-called "even hearing a sound, they do not believe" should be regarded as other heretics. The so-called "emerging from the wilderness monastery" should be regarded as the diligence dedicated to all-knowing wisdom. The so-called "relics about a fathom high" should be regarded as the Dharmadhatu. The so-called "on the right side, there are cliffs of a hundred thousand cubits" should be regarded as the land of the Shravakas. The so-called "on the left side, there are cliffs of a hundred thousand cubits" should be regarded as the land of the Pratyekabuddhas. The so-called "on the left and right sides, there are built supports" should be regarded as the diligence endowed with skillful means and the perfection of wisdom.
