Now I vow without discrimination. Again, I make this vow: May a burning iron pot descend like fiery water into my mouth, and even if it lasts for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, may I not eat the food of those who break their vows, nor all the food of the faithful donors. Again, I make this vow: May my body, even if covered by an iron net burned by a great fire, even if placed on the heat of burning iron, not allow the body that has broken its vows to sit on the beds of the faithful donors. Again, I make this vow: May my body, even if pierced by three hundred tridents for one or two kalpas, ultimately not allow the body that has broken its vows to eat all the medicine of the faithful donors. Again, I make this vow: May my body, even if placed in a hot iron pot for a thousand kalpas, ultimately not allow the body that has broken its vows to sit on all the houses, gardens, trees, and land of the faithful donors. Again, I make this vow: May my body, even if beaten from head to toe into fine dust by an iron hammer, not allow the body and mind that have broken their vows to prostrate before the faithful donors who are devout and respectful. Again, I make this vow: May my eyes, even if gouged out and pierced by thousands of red-hot iron swords and spears, not allow the mind that has broken its vows to look at the beautiful colors of others. Again, I make this vow: May my body, even if pierced by thousands of iron needles into the pores of my body and the roots of my ears for one or two kalpas, ultimately not allow the mind that has broken its vows to listen to beautiful music. Again, I make this vow: May my nose, even if cut off and shaved by swords for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, not allow the mind that has broken its vows to smell all fragrances. Again, I make this vow: May my tongue, even if cut and chopped by swords for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, not allow the mind that has broken its vows to taste all the clean food of people.

May we not crave any food. And again, may we make this aspiration: Even if a sharp axe cuts and severs the body, may we ultimately not crave or be attached to the goodness touched by a mind that breaks the precepts. And again, may we make this aspiration: May all sentient beings become Buddhas. If one does not generate such an aspiration of a Bodhisattva, it is a downfall. A son of the Buddha should always cultivate merit in two seasons, winter and summer, entering into meditation, entering into discipline, as well as toothpicks, bean flour, the three Dharma robes, pills, a begging bowl, a cushion, a bell, a wooden bowl, a water strainer, a hand towel, a knife, a fire drill, a fire drill mat, thorns, a rope bed, silk thread, and the law. When a son of the Buddha cultivates merit and travels through villages, if he goes back and forth for hundreds of thousands of yojanas, the eighteen requisites should always be inseparable from the body. The one who cultivates merit is from the fifteenth day of the first spring month to the fifteenth day of the last spring month, and from the fifteenth day of the middle autumn month to the thirtieth day of the first winter month. During these two periods, the eighteen requisites are inseparable from the body, like the wings of a bird. On the Uposatha day, the newly learning Bodhisattvas should recite the ten defeats and the precepts of the forty-eight downfalls every half month. When reciting the precepts, in front of the images of all the Buddhas and all the Bodhisattvas, one person recites and one person confesses, one or two people are fine, even if there are hundreds of thousands, one person should recite. The reciter sits in a high place, and the listener sits in a low place. Each person wears Dharma robes of nine, five, or seven pieces, and receives the precepts according to the Dharma, passing them from one person to another. When cultivating merit, do not go to places where there are obstacles and discomfort. Obstacles of the country, the untamed king, the high and low land, the dense trees, the lions, tigers, and jackals of summer, and water and wind.
