will become like that. When he sees that person, if that is the case, that person will also have a headache. Excretion and defecation will also occur. Great Sage, this is the characteristic of the assembly of beings born in hell. Whoever becomes like that should also understand that I and this person appear together among the beings in hell. The Great Sage asked: O Illuminator of Lineages, All-Knowing One, what is the characteristic of those who dwell together with animals? The Blessed One replied: O Great Sage, when beings born as humans see each other, they hold grudges and think, "How can I find fault with this person?" O Great Sage, this is the characteristic of the assembly of beings born as animals. It should be known that I and this person appear together among animals. O Great Sage, those born as pretas desire foul smells and are extremely greedy for food. Even if they intend to give to others, attachment will arise. Whoever is born together with a preta and gathers together, seeing that person's power, jealousy will arise. They will covet the wealth of others. This is the characteristic of the assembly of those born as pretas. Therefore, it should be known that I and this person appear together among the pretas. O Great Sage, whichever human being is gathered from other lineages, when he sees that person, a mind of attachment will arise. O Great Sage, this is the characteristic of the assembly of beings born as humans. Therefore, I and this person appear among humans. It should be understood in this way. The Great Sage asked: O Blessed One, how are those who are born in the heavens and gather together compared to those born as humans? The Blessed One replied: O Great Sage, those who are born in the heavens and gather together, when they see each other, will enter into a state of viewing. Therefore, it should be known that I and this person are born together in the heavens and gather together. O Great Sage, beings gather in such ways

It is finished. Then, the great ascetic Fire-offering, delighted and joyful, requested the Bhagavan, saying: O Bhagavan, those beings who do not aspire to omniscience, I declare that they are deceived. Then, the Bhagavan again spoke to the great ascetic Fire-offering, saying: O great ascetic, where is there a small being called a sentient being? You say that to me. O great ascetic, whoever clings to sentient beings, he distinguishes sentient beings as small. O great ascetic, for example, if someone says to a blind person: Hey, sir, what is something called white like? O great ascetic, what do you think? Because he has not seen it, can he say that white is like this? The great ascetic replied: How can there be a connection? The Bhagavan said: O great ascetic, likewise, I am like a blind person, because I have not seen it, I cannot say that something called a sentient being is so small. O great ascetic, one cannot find something called a sentient being in the eye, nor can one find something called a sentient being in the ear, nose, tongue, body, or mind. O great ascetic, one cannot find something called a sentient being in the five aggregates of grasping. O great ascetic, one cannot find something called a sentient being in the eighteen elements and the twelve links of dependent origination, nor in inner emptiness. One cannot find something called a sentient being in outer emptiness and inner-outer emptiness. O great ascetic, the eye is bad, it is perishable, it does not remain for even a moment. Likewise, the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind are also bad, they are perishable, they do not remain for even a moment. O great ascetic, the five aggregates of grasping are also bad, they are perishable, they do not remain for even a moment. O great ascetic, the thirty-six impure substances are also bad, they are perishable, they do not remain for even a moment. There is also nothing called a sentient being, nor is there form. O great ascetic, the aggregation of matter is categorized as sentient beings. Those who completely conceptualize and distinguish things are

I, the healer, the man, the sentient being, the power-born, the power-child are not to be found. Great sage, if there were sentient beings, the Thus-Gone One would not be able to teach the Dharma exceedingly well with the Four Noble Truths. Great sage, for what reason, because there are no sentient beings, does one attain the body of the Thus-Gone One. Therefore, as one truly practices, so one truly accomplishes. Then, the great sage Fire Torch said this to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, from this day forward, may I, the great sage Fire Torch, aspire to become omniscient." Blessed One, even if I were to remain in the fiery pit of sentient being hells for countless eons, or were to become like the position of the lower realm of Mount Meru, from that high place I would abandon my body, or were to become like the five sufferings being burned by an eon, or were the sun to remain for an eon, or were to fast for one month in thirty eons, such austerities, Blessed One, I am willing and desire, but for the sake of omniscience, I will not slacken in diligence. Great sage, as many who possess the five superknowledges who have come to the Blessed One, they also arose from their seats and said this to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, we also, from this day forward, aspire to attain unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and will strive diligently with whatever we can." As soon as the great sages spoke those words, the Blessed One emitted a ray of light called 'The Tamer' from between his eyebrows. All the Buddhas of the ten directions also emitted a ray of light called 'The Tamer' from between their eyebrows. By the power of those rays, this great earth shook in six ways: it shook greatly, it trembled, it trembled greatly, it swayed, it swayed greatly. If the east is high, the south is low; if the west is low, the north is high; if the east is low, the south is high; if the west is high, the north is low. All the Buddhas of the ten directions also rained down a shower of flowers upon the Thus-Gone One, and beat great drums. The Gandharva lord, Delightful
