།དེ་ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། ཆོས་ཐམས་ཅད་ མི་དམིགས་པའི་ཕྱིར་འདིས་བུད་མེད་མི་དམིགས་སྐྱེས་པ་མི་དམིགས་སོ། །གཞོན་ནུར་གྱུར་མ་སེང་གེས་ཆོས་ཀྱི་རྣམ་གྲངས་འདི་རྟོགས་པར་ཁོང་དུ་ཆུད་དོ། །སྣང་བ་ཐོབ་བོ། Lion, furthermore, if a woman becomes jealous, stingy, and cunning, similarly, speaking one thing but stealing with the mind another; speaking openly one thing but secretly thinking another; going to a monastic for the sake of experiencing, but not for the sake of the Dharma; being overwhelmed by anger; being dull; being very sleepy; being manifestly delighted in bustle; and not seeking to take to heart the teachings of such Dharma categories; even if one spends the days and nights with a completely afflicted mind, but not with a completely purified mind, those afflictions will not cause that woman to completely cling to the things of a woman, and will not exhaust them. Therefore, Lion, in brief, in order to prevent all of a woman's afflictions from arising and occurring, one should take to heart, recite, fully comprehend, grasp, and read these Dharma categories. Why is that? Because these Dharma categories are separated from a woman's afflictions. The youthful Lioness asked: Blessed One, if a woman does not desire to transform from the things of a woman, but takes to heart, holds, recites, bears, reads, and fully comprehends these Dharma categories, how should one view that? The Blessed One replied: Lion, even if one does not desire to transform from the things of a woman, but takes to heart or contemplates these Dharma categories, one should know that that itself is the end of the things of a woman, except for a displayer of magical power. Lion, it is like this: for example, if a certain man or woman jumps into a great heap of fire that is completely spreading and blazing with flames, and says this word: May my body not be burned! May the color of my skin not change! Lion, what do you think of this? Will that man or woman, by speaking those words, obtain that thought? Replied: Blessed One, that is not so. Blessed One

A woman who wishes to follow in the footsteps of the lion should take up this Dharma discourse. She should fully comprehend it, recite it, memorize it, read it, and diligently repeat it. Then, five thousand nuns arose from their seats and, with palms joined, bowed to the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, from this day forward, we will take up this Dharma discourse. We will fully comprehend it, recite it, memorize it, read it, and diligently repeat it." Why is that? "Blessed One, we are not seeking the state of being a woman. Blessed One, we despise the state of being a woman. Blessed One, from this day forward, we will not be negligent until we have fully comprehended this Dharma discourse. We will not be overcome by drowsiness and sleep." After they had spoken thus, the Blessed One said to those nuns: "Excellent, excellent! You have spoken well of this word. Having donned great armor, and since you by no means seek the state of being a woman, but have undertaken this great effort to seek the Buddhas' teachings, excellent, excellent! Therefore, you should make even greater effort to take up this Dharma discourse." Then, having heard this, those nuns were satisfied, pleased, delighted, and joyful, and each covered the Blessed One's feet with their upper garments. Having covered them, they spoke this verse: "For the sake of the male state, today we have found respite. Because the Victor will not speak otherwise, we will become supreme in the world." Then, five hundred householders' wives, having heard this verse of those nuns, arose from their seats and, with palms joined, bowed to the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, we too, from this day forward, will take up this Dharma discourse. We will fully comprehend it, recite it, memorize it, read it, and diligently repeat it. We will become slaves of others in the future.
