Thus he dwells exceedingly in existence, Thus he liberates sentient beings, Therefore, he is called Bhagavan. Whatever are the Buddha's teachings, He is not afraid of any of them. The teachings are boundless and limitless, He proclaims them to sentient beings. All the Buddha's teachings, Are empty of inherent nature, Having known that, those teachings, He practices, and there is no seeing in them. The nature of the teachings is empty, Thus, he cherishes and meditates. Having known emptiness in all aspects, He practices without fear. All the teachings are false, Having fully known, he is without fear. Having become fearless, of the teachings, The true characteristics he fully reveals. He has completely transcended all fears, He has completely abandoned all bad destinies. Without fear or dread, from bad destinies, He completely delivers embodied beings. From the great fear of samsara, He liberates countless sentient beings. He does not move sentient beings from that, And he also liberates them from that. Having liberated them, in the field of nirvana, He rejoices greatly in supreme peace, But those sentient beings are not perceived, Therefore, he is called Bhagavan. Like the nature of the sky, the teachings, Although he fully reveals them to embodied beings, He has no fear of that, Therefore, he is called Bhagavan. All the teachings of many kinds, He speaks without distinction, They are equal because of equal enlightenment, That enlightenment is also not perceived. For the sake of beings attaining enlightenment, He leads others into this. Thus, although he teaches the teachings, He has no fear of anything. With various kinds of teachings, He explains this embodied being, He is free from fear and without clinging, Therefore, he is called Bhagavan. He has rightly attained the cessation of perception, The Bodhisattva is without afflictions, Therefore, he has obtained this name, Therefore, he is known as Bhagavan. He does not seek or slander, The teachings are equal to cessation, Having known this beforehand, He is also called Bhagavan. The wise one does not take names to heart, He has no attachment to names, In order to liberate from attachment to names, He teaches the Dharma to sentient beings. The enlightenment that the wise enter, That enlightenment is free from names, Whoever is a sentient being who takes names to heart, That one is very far from enlightenment.

Sounds are like echoes in a valley, all forms completely vanish. Having known that sounds have no inherent nature, even saying "equality" is without attachment. Without attachment to all sounds, not abiding in any speech. Because of non-elaboration for the sake of enlightenment, it is said to be "Bhagavan." For the expression of the name Bhagavan, such dharmas are not attained by the Bodhisattva, therefore it is called Bhagavan. The steadfast one who has entered well into enlightenment, without attachment, without defilements, knows well these names, and has no attachment to this either. What is expressed by the name Bhagavan, these names and other names, knowing these, I say, "I have become Buddha, I am Bhagavan." Ananda, having contemplated this, whatever the Bhagavan speaks truthfully, speaks in my name, therefore it is so declared. Question: Bhagavan, with what teachings does a Bodhisattva cultivate well, so that he can steadfastly say, "I have become Buddha"? Please reveal these names. The Buddha said: By what does one completely understand that all dharmas are empty, and for the sake of understanding that all dharmas are pure, therefore it is called Buddha. Whoever knows that afflictions are false and unreal, is not controlled by them, and does not cling to all afflictions, that is called Buddha. If one knows that the body is empty, this is not mine, nor anyone else's. Truly, this body has no substance whatsoever. Children are not skilled in observing the body, and cling to what has no substance as having substance. He truly knows as it is, therefore he is called Buddha. If the thought of "I," the thought that arises, is extremely without characteristics. Knowing that it is without characteristics, one is not controlled by it. Form is unborn at the beginning and end, knowing that there is no real arising. This is what children conjecture, and there is no reality in this. Feeling understands that there is no root or basis, and no root can be found in this. Not abiding in all dharmas, therefore there is no feeling in this. Perception is like a mirage, knowing that it is unreal and without substance, therefore it does not involve itself in all dharmas in any way. All bodies are without substance, not grasped by the formations. The formations make the body empty.
