The Blessed One said: Shariputra, any son of good family or daughter of good family who, upon hearing this teaching on the "Subjugation of Mara," immediately rejoices and believes, and does not give rise to doubt, will accumulate much merit. Then, three sons of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, holding Mandarava flowers, appearing as prominent as Mount Sumeru, countless hundreds of thousands of flowers came from the sky. The venerable Ananda and all the retinue saw those three sons of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle coming from afar. Having seen them, they also developed a sense of wonder. Then, the venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, where do these Bodhisattvas come from? The Blessed One said: Ananda, from this Buddha-field to the east, passing as many worlds as there are grains of sand in the Ganges River, there is a world called Lotus Manifestation, which is as prominent as Mount Sumeru. There, having heard this Dharma teaching, they came from that world for that reason. Then, those three sons of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle stood before the Blessed One and scattered those Mandarava flowers upon the Blessed One, scattering them thoroughly. Having scattered them thoroughly, they said these words: Blessed One, we rejoice and have faith in this Dharma teaching, and we have no doubt. Why is that? It is like this: Just as the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, we also have no doubt. Thus they spoke. Then, one of those sons of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, if someone speaks of the Tathagata with truthful speech, that Tathagata is me, and I have no doubt or uncertainty about this Dharma teaching. Two sons of good family of the Bodhisattva Vehicle said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, if someone speaks of the Blessed One with truthful speech, that Blessed One is me, and I

Do not doubt or hesitate about this Dharma category. The three sons of the Bodhisattva Vehicle asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, if one speaks of who is the Buddha with correct speech, Blessed One, that Buddha is me, I have no doubt or hesitation about this Dharma category. Then, many hundreds of thousands of beings in that assembly thought: In any case, it is impossible for two Buddhas to appear in the world at the same time, why do these people say this? They became distracted and disliked their seats. Then, by the power of the Buddha, the venerable Ananda asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, what is this, these people are like roaring lions, what are those names? The Blessed One said: Ananda, here one name is "correctly entered by proclaiming the sound of the Tathagata," the second name is "correctly entered by proclaiming the sound of the Blessed One," and the third name is "correctly entered by proclaiming the sound of the Buddha." Ananda, that is so. Because there is this Dharma category of these people saying this, and the names of these people are those. Asked: Blessed One, those who have become distracted, they will think of these, they will say this, and the roots of virtue of those people will become even more radiant, just like, for example, Blessed One, a young boy, whose skin is completely pure, if washed with red sandalwood water, his body will be more fragrant, and his skin will be completely pure and radiant. Blessed One, the roots of virtue of those Bodhisattvas who are skilled in expedient speech will also become more radiant, Blessed One, please explain to the hundreds of thousands of distracted beings the expedient words spoken by these people. Then, the Blessed One at that time spoke these verses: The past and the present arise, and the future is also the same.

Now, seeing all dharmas in this way, therefore it is called Tathagata. Whatever dharmas are present, past, and future, they are not two, without division, always and utterly without characteristics. Just as the Buddhas of the past gave immeasurable generosity, so these also give in the same way, thinking of this, it is said. Entering bodhi without attachment, like the Tathagatas of the past, so entering bodhi, therefore it is called Tathagata. Having entered all dharmas, one seeks peaceful bodhi, but that bodhi is also unattainable, therefore it is called Tathagata. Thus, the conduct of the past is proclaimed, the future is also the same, and what arises now is also attained in the same way, therefore it is called Tathagata. Like the lord of compassion for beings, enduring before the steadfast ones, so enduring steadfastly, the other shore of endurance is ultimate. When seeking bodhi in the past, I exerted myself as before, so that becomes diligence, therefore it is called Tathagata. Whatever equal dharmas I have touched, this also touches that equality, and there is no pride in this, therefore it is called Tathagata. All dharmas are without pride, their nature is always equal, without any discrimination, this knows that equality. Like the Tathagatas of the past, this also enters samadhi in the same way, realizing the peace of non-discrimination, therefore it is called Tathagata. Whatever is the nature of all dharmas, I have fully proclaimed, always and utterly without substance, that knows its nature. Obtaining characteristics through wisdom, because of knowing well the emptiness of dharmas, therefore knowing well all dharmas, having reached the other shore of wisdom. Like the immeasurable wise ones of the past, how did they reach the other shore of wisdom, they also did not reach that shore, not having gone to nirvana. Those who have reached the other shore of suchness, how have they not reached this shore, so this also has not found it, therefore it is called Tathagata. As others think of that, so bodhi is unattainable, because all dharmas are unattainable, that is thus.
