Ignorance Like the sky, all phenomena are without characteristics. Because of this direct realization, it is called a Pratyekabuddha. Whatever is said to be the activity of the body, those are not found anywhere within the body. Not external, not external and internal, they do not arise anywhere. Like a water tree aggregate, there is no essence. Always very deeply without essence. Unborn and unceasing, like and similar to the sky. Because of this direct realization, the Bodhisattva is without fear. Inconceivable, therefore, it is called the self-perfected Buddha. In the realm of illusory nature, all phenomena are fully known. In the nature of illusion, this is directly realized. This consciousness's object, this is a reversed thought. Fully knowing it to be reversed. By that, thoughts are dispelled, therefore, phenomena are known to be emptiness. Knowing, knowing that is not knowing. It does not perish in all places. Thus, phenomena that are nominally established, consciousness is like an illusion. Whatever is said as name and form, it is said with intention. Always very deeply of its own nature, its entity is not established. Not having sources of arising, these sources of arising have been shown. Those are expressed by sound, those are empty from the beginning. Whatever contact there was in the past, arising from the stability of the sources of arising. Like the nature of accumulation and illusion, that is dispelled by that. Contact arises from discrimination, that is empty of essence. By essence, the phenomena of contact, nothing exists. This is mistaken contact, the nature of contact is directly realized. Contact is solitary and perfect, therefore it is called a Pratyekabuddha. The three feelings are empty, and the nature is peaceful, like a water bubble without essence. Know it to be very accumulated and hollow. All craving is completely cut off, knowing the nature of non-craving. After attaining the cessation of craving, therefore it is called a Pratyekabuddha. Grasping is not grasping, in emptiness it is dispelled by this. That is not established as an entity, like water in a mirage. Whatever thought there is of existence, its antidote is a sinful thought. That of that is by nature, always very deeply knowing it to be unreal. In that place

All births are without existence, and there is no death for them. That one, at any time, has no birth either. Having known these conditions, that one does not abide in anything. By the name of "self-enlightened Buddha," the Bodhisattva is well-shown. Shariputra, in this way, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, has fully revealed the Bodhisattva, the great being, as a self-enlightened Buddha. Fourth fascicle. Then, the venerable Ananda spoke these verses at that time: The World Protector spoke of Nirvana as without cessation, having abandoned the knot of space, it is liberated by space itself. The one who does not possess attachment, the teacher of the Dharma, the Buddha who is skilled in means, here there is nothing spoken, yet he speaks. Then, the venerable Ananda, having spoken these verses, said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, the world dwellers who do not understand the hidden speech of the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One, are confused here. What does the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened One intend, that it is not known the complete revelation of following with faith, and following with the Dharma, and likewise the eighth one, the stream-enterer, the once-returner, the non-returner, the Arhat, the Hearer, and the complete revelation of the self-enlightened Buddha? Having spoken thus, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, those who have done excellent deeds for the previous victors will not be confused about this. Ananda, therefore, those Bodhisattvas, great beings, who think, "We should know this hidden speech of the Tathagata," those who are armed in such a way will not be confused about this place. Those who are diligent without clinging to diligence will not be confused about this. Those who possess wisdom that does not rely on others will not be confused about this. Then, the Blessed One spoke these verses at that time:
