There is no place to stay, nor does it remain. This patience can bring great benefits. Son of a noble family, furthermore, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses the great wheel of armor of diligence. If a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva possesses that wheel, from the initial generation of the mind, he completely eliminates the five desires, greatly surpasses all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, becomes a great field of merit for all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and is worshiped, protected, and approached with reverence by all vehicles of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. What is the great wheel of armor of diligence? Son of a noble family, the diligence of a Bodhisattva is of two types: worldly and transcendental. What is the worldly diligence of a Bodhisattva? Bodhisattvas diligently engage in the three aspects of worldly meritorious actions with great effort. What is merit? It is the meritorious action of giving, the meritorious action of upholding morality, and the meritorious action of cultivating meditation. Engaging in these actions is called the three types of diligence. These three types of diligence are focused on sentient beings, are with outflows, are with attachment, rely on the ripening fruit, and rely on meritorious actions. This is called the worldly diligence of a Bodhisattva. This diligence is common to the vehicles of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and is not called the great wheel of armor, nor is it called Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, nor is it the true field of merit for all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. What is the transcendental wheel of great armor of diligence of a Bodhisattva? Bodhisattvas, with great effort and diligence, eliminate all afflictive actions and sufferings for all sentient beings with an equal mind. This diligence is praised by all noble ones, is without outflows, and is without attachment.

Without reliance or place, diligence and laziness, generosity and stinginess, morality and immorality, loving-kindness and hatred, without differentiating between all beings, superior, middling, and inferior, with undifferentiated cognition, one initiates extremely diligent effort. Towards all beings of the three realms, acting with equanimity and without object, towards all places of speech, thought, and observation, one initiates extremely diligent effort with a mind that does not abide. Without differentiating thoughts towards the aggregates, realms, and sources of the three existences, one initiates extremely diligent effort, the diligent effort that does not abide in the desire realm, the diligent effort that does not abide in the form realm, the diligent effort that does not abide in the formless realm, the diligent effort that does not discriminate towards all the ripening fruits of existence, the diligent effort that does not abide in all that is gained and not gained, the diligent effort that does not abide in all conditioned phenomena, the diligent effort that does not abide in the three objects of worldly meritorious actions, and one initiates extremely diligent effort towards the three objects of meritorious actions that possess transcendence. This is called the great wheel of armor of the bodhisattva's transcendent diligence. Son of lineage, if a bodhisattva mahasattva possesses such a great wheel of armor of diligence, from the initial generation of the mind, he completely abandons the five objects of desire and is called a bodhisattva mahasattva. He far surpasses all shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, becoming a field of merit for all shravakas and pratyekabuddhas, and all vehicles of shravakas and pratyekabuddhas will make offerings, protect, and venerate him. Then, the Bhagavan, in order to clarify these meanings, spoke in verses: Those who are extremely attached to the six senses, carried away by the five rivers of desire, even if they initiate extremely diligent effort,

The earth will curse him. For those who cling to sentient beings and have flaws, Those who cling to acceptance and strive diligently, It is not a true field of merit. It is not a great Bodhisattva. Wise ones who strive diligently, Having abandoned all attachments from afar, The mind does not dwell on anything, does not cling. That is called a true field of merit. Without attachment to name and form, Having abandoned the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, Everything becomes the support of samsara, That is the great Bodhisattva. Even acting in the world is like the moon in water, Reaching the extreme of diligent effort. Completely destroying with this wheel, Binding afflictions from all beings. Son of the lineage, furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva has the wheel of the great armor of meditation. Any Bodhisattva Mahasattva who possesses this wheel, from the initial generation of the mind, completely eliminates the five desires, far surpassing all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, becoming a great field of merit for all Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and all vehicles of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas will offer, protect, and respect him. So, what is the wheel of the great armor of meditation? Son of the lineage, there are two types of meditation for Bodhisattvas: worldly and transcendental. So, what is the worldly meditation of a Bodhisattva? Bodhisattvas meditate while dwelling on the aggregates, meditate while dwelling on the elements, meditate while dwelling on the sense bases, meditate while dwelling on the desire realm, meditate while dwelling on the form realm, meditate while dwelling on the formless realm, meditate while dwelling on the three vows, meditate while dwelling on the three doors of liberation, meditate while dwelling on the four mindfulnesses, meditate while dwelling on the four right abandonments, meditate while dwelling on the four legs of miraculous power, meditate while dwelling on the five faculties, meditate while dwelling on the five powers, meditate while dwelling on the seven branches of enlightenment.
