Those who are manifestly seized by stinginess, jealousy, ignorance, and pride, who are far from the three supreme deeds, who are attached to gain, respect, and fame, who are fond of the six objects, who are distracted by desire, who are attached to the objects of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, are shameless and without embarrassment, and are included among those who revile and slander the sacred Dharma. These are called shameless and unashamed monks. Son of good family, some of those who are called monks in the ultimate sense are also included among the practitioners who have overcome the noble path. Those who have overcome the path are those who abide in the eight limbs of the noble path, who liberate themselves from the river of afflictions, and who also liberate other beings. How is that? The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, the Pratyekabuddhas, and the Arhats, these three types of individuals are called those who have overcome the noble path because they are far removed from all the cycles of the branches of existence. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva Sangha, who, without relying on others, see all phenomena without obstruction by wisdom, and who gather all sentient beings with the intention of benefiting and bringing happiness, are also included among the practitioners who have overcome the path. Some monks in the ultimate sense and monks in the conventional sense are included among the monks who show the path. Those who possess the Pratimoksha vows, from the truly virtuous person to those who possess the worldly right view, relying on the communication of knowledge, and who, through the power of miracles, distinctly show and explain the Dharma of the noble path to others, are the last of the path-showing practitioners, and are called path-showing practitioners. The individual who has attained the fruit of stream-entry is called the second. The individual who has attained the fruit of once-returner is called the third. The individual who has attained the fruit of non-returner is called the fourth. Furthermore, the Sangha of Bodhisattva Mahasattvas is called the fifth. Those who abide on the first bhumi up to the tenth bhumi and the last existence are also included among the path-showing practitioners. Those who possess the Pratimoksha vows and

Those who possess completely pure conduct are included among the practitioners who live by the path. Because they maintain their lives through the path, they are called practitioners who live by the path. Furthermore, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva who diligently practices the six perfections for the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings is also called one who lives by the path. Therefore, those who have conquered through the path, the teachers of the path, and the three types of practitioners who live by the path are the true fields of merit in the world. Other practitioners besides these are called destroyers of the path. Although they are not true fields of merit, they are still counted among the fields of merit. Regarding those who dwell in and rely on a shameless and unashamed Sangha, the Buddha said, "These people are like corpses in the Dharma of the Vinaya that I have correctly taught." Because they are not vessels of Dharma to be removed from the ocean of the completely pure Sangha, one does not say to these people, "I am the teacher," nor are these people my Shravakas. Those shameless monks who have not become vessels of Dharma consider me to be the teacher, and have great faith in my relics, my body images, and great faith in my Dharma, Sangha, and the precepts of the noble ones. They themselves do not hold wrong views, nor do they cause others to cling to wrong views, and they extensively teach the Dharma that I have taught, greatly praising and extolling it, not slandering or denigrating it, and constantly making correct aspirations. As soon as they commit a sin, they immediately confess and repent repeatedly and abandon it, thus pacifying many karmic obscurations. In this way, that person, by the power of faith in the Three Jewels and the precepts of the noble ones, surpasses the ninety-five heretics by hundreds of thousands. Although they may not quickly reach the city of Nirvana, even a Chakravartin king would not despise them, let alone other people. Therefore, the Tathagata, knowing and seeing the various characteristics of the karma and experiential Dharma of all sentient beings, said, if someone has faith in my teachings...
