Being completely tormented by the disease of desire in various ways, for those who are intoxicated by various views of conditioned phenomena, the Thus-Gone One teaches liberation in order to benefit them. For those who seek it, he teaches the four noble truths of the Hearer Vehicle, which cause them to arise from samsara. For those who hold to annihilationism, he teaches the praise of the Dharma of dependent origination. For those who hold to eternalism, he teaches the continuity of existence in the three realms, that from here they die and transmigrate to another place, revolving continuously like a potter's wheel, and the Dharma of impermanence and so forth. Son of good family, all that the Thus-Gone One has shown by means of names, terms, letters, words, and sounds is not without fruit and without meaning, for there is nothing that he has not shown for the purpose of fully maturing sentient beings. Therefore, if one mocks and slanders the Dharma spoken by the Thus-Gone One, that is the sin of obscuring the eye of the true Dharma of sentient beings, and thus one will obtain immeasurable sins that exceed the five heinous crimes or are similar to them. Whoever mocks and slanders, or creates obstacles and hindrances, or even conceals a single verse of the holy Dharma that I have spoken for the benefit and happiness of sentient beings, whether it is spoken based on the Hearer Vehicle, or based on the Solitary Buddha Vehicle, or based on the Great Vehicle, whichever it may be, it should be known that this is slandering the holy Dharma, it is causing the eight limbs of the noble path to disappear, it is causing the eye of the holy Dharma of all sentient beings to be damaged, therefore that person is thus engaging in great meaninglessness himself, and also causing others to engage in great meaninglessness. Moreover, that person is relying on the shameless and disgraceful sangha, and is mocking and slandering the holy Dharma of the Thus-Gone One, it should be said. Son of good family, there are also four kinds of monks. What are the four? The ultimate monk, the conventional monk, the sheep-like dull monk, and the shameless and disgraceful monk. Among them, how is one an ultimate monk? For example, the Buddha, the Bhagavan

Is it an Arhat? Is it a Bhikshu, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, endowed with great qualities, who has mastery over all Dharmas? Is it the Bodhi of a Pratyekabuddha? Is it an Arhat? Is it a Non-Returner? Is it a Once-Returner? Is it a Stream-Enterer? These seven types of individuals are categorized as ultimate Bhikshus. If someone lives at home, and neither shaves their hair and beard, nor wears monastic robes, nor receives all the monastic vows of the Pratimoksha, and does not participate in the activities of requesting, asking, the Uposatha, and all the affairs of the Karma, but possesses the Noble Dharma and attains the Noble Fruit, then they are also categorized as an ultimate Bhikshu, and these are called ultimate Bhikshus. Then, what is a conventional Bhikshu? If one shaves their hair and beard, wears saffron robes, ordains, and possesses the Pratimoksha vows, then that is called a conventional Bhikshu. Then, what is a Bhikshu like a blind sheep? They do not know whether they have broken the root vows, etc., or not. They do not know whether it is heavy or light. Even if they commit various minor offenses, they do not repent or confess. They treat offenses lightly and do not pay attention to minor sins. They are not afraid. They do not rely on wise people. Sometimes they do not attend to, respect, or serve those who are learned and wise. They do not know how to respectfully ask and inquire. What is virtuous? What is non-virtuous? What is sinful? What is sinless? What is good to do? What is not good to do? They do not ask or inquire about these things. Those individuals are categorized as Bhikshus like blind sheep, and are called Bhikshus like blind sheep. Then, what is a Bhikshu without shame or embarrassment? Some beings, merely for the sake of survival, turn to my teachings and ordain. After ordaining, all the vows of the Pratimoksha that they guarded are broken. They have no shame or embarrassment, and they do not pay attention to the suffering results of future lives. They are not afraid. They are like worms filled with rotten and filthy insides, behaving like dogs to the sound of a conch shell. They always lie and have no truthful words. They are miserly.
