The ten sinful places are equal to the sin of a brothel. The ten sinful places of a brothel are equal to the sin of a tavern. The ten places of a tavern are equal to the sin of a butcher. The ten places of a butcher are equal to the sin of a Chandal king. Chapter Five. Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Ksitigarbha said to the Bhagavan: "Venerable Bhagavan, if a king of good lineage, or a good minister, or a good householder, or a good merchant, or a good Shramana, or a good Brahmin, etc., greatly protect themselves and also greatly protect others, and also fear the afterlife, abide in the Buddha's teachings, whether ordained as a vessel of Dharma or not, or even if they are young and without discipline, but have their hair and beard shaved and wear robes, they should be treated with great respect and offered worship. Furthermore, with respect to the Dharma of the Hearer Vehicle, the Dharma of the Pratyekabuddha Vehicle, and the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, they should listen, uphold, and make offerings with reverence, abide in the Great Vehicle, possess discipline, possess virtues, and diligently strive, from diligence to the individuals who abide in the fruit, they should follow and protect, display power, inquire and ask, listen and uphold, joyfully speak and discuss, and abandon far away the monks who have broken their vows and commit sins. They should not allow others to encroach upon the property of the Sangha of the four directions, and should protect it very carefully. They should not steal the property of the Sangha of the four directions and the property of the stupas themselves, nor should they allow others to steal it. They should not use it themselves, nor should they allow others to use it. They should offer worship and display power with reverence to those who speak the Dharma of the Three Vehicles, and they should not allow others to slander, defame, or curse them. They should make offerings to them and generate joy. For those who have been ordained, and for the faith in the Dharma of the Buddha's teachings, they should protect and uphold it, and the stupas should not be destroyed, and the residences and temples of the Sangha should also be very

to protect, and not to despise or slander ordained individuals who have shaved their hair and beards and wear saffron robes, and not to engage in the ten wheels of sinful actions oneself. To guide others to stay away from the ten wheels of sinful actions, to govern the kingdom according to the teachings and customs of previous kings, to uphold the lineage of the Three Jewels, fostering faith and prosperity, to always rely on virtuous spiritual friends, and to protect all people with a compassionate heart. To tame and teach all beings according to the Dharma that suits their individual needs and capacities. Abandoning wrong views and diligently encouraging others to focus on the correct Dharma, from virtuous kings to virtuous Brahmins, how much merit will these virtuous deeds accumulate, and how much sin will be purified? The Blessed One said: Son of good family, if a person with great power were to appear in the world and fill the entire Jambudvipa with the seven precious substances in the morning, offering them to the Buddha and the Sangha; and at noon, fill the entire Jambudvipa with the seven precious substances, offering them to the Buddha and the Sangha; and in the evening, fill the entire Jambudvipa with the seven precious substances, offering them to the Buddha and the Sangha. If they were to give in this way continuously every day for a hundred thousand years, would that person's accumulation of merit be greater? The Bodhisattva Mahasattva Kshitigarbha replied: Extremely great, Blessed One, extremely great! O Sugata, that person's accumulation of merit is immeasurable, incalculable, cannot be spoken of, cannot be counted, cannot be enumerated, and cannot be compared. Only a single Buddha can know it, not others. The Blessed One said: Son of good family, it is just so, it is just so! It is just as you have said. If someone, from a virtuous royal family to a virtuous Brahmin, does not engage in the ten wheels of sinful actions themselves, and also teaches others who engage in the ten wheels of sinful actions to abandon them, then that accumulation of merit is greater than the previous accumulation of merit.
